This place is about the same price as most Thai places, but the ambience is a little nicer. The tom yum soup is delicious! Not a fan of the curry, but everything else is good.

Wow.. Great food, great wine.. You have to order the Angel Wings in Curry.. Bombdiggityyy.. The Drunken Noodles were awesome too (Medium Spicy is definately spicier than Medium at other spots). Will post picks of food... in mah bellyyyyy!! Yumyumgimmesomeeee..

I just didn't like it. The food was greasy and overly sauced and too sweet. The soup had big chunks of raw mushrooms that were just not that appetizing. It did have nice decor and a good wine list.

Salmon salad was not good. It was served on ice berg lettuce and the sauce was way too sweet with no complexity (hello, no other spice in there?). Tasted like it was straight from a ready made sauce from a bottle at an asian market. Blah. My co-workers didn't really care about their dishes too. Pra Ram tasted off, Panang Curry was just ok and Basil Eggplant was too salty. The service was iffy too. This was my second visit and really wanted to give it another chance but I would not go back and waste my money! King of Thai on Clement is so much better and at a reasonable price too!!! No thank you Baan Thai.

came here with my boyfriend for dinner. the decor of this place is nice with a slight dim to make things more "romantic?" for starter we got the sunset pork and for his entree he got tangy exotic seafood and i got yellow curry chicken. food was good. service was good especially the lady. she checked up on us and refill our water.

I've been to Baan Thai a couple of times now. The staff is super friendly. The drinks are great. And the food is superb. This is definitely not your average hole in the wall, rather, it's a cute restaurant with sharp contemporary decor, perfect for a date, a late afternoon lunch, or even a small birthday party. Even the details, down to the menu descriptions, show how much love and attention is paid to the dining experience. If you live in the neighborhood, or simply are looking for a nice and quiet dining experience, you've gotta check out Baan Thai.

Overpriced and not nearly as good as Marnee or Soi Gow right down the street.

Like osha, but with wine and no wait. Super friendly staff too!

    1) The food is decent, but they try to be fancy and it fails in that effort. 2) It's for yuppies. Loaded with Yuppies. Non-Yuppies stay away. 3) Service is horrible! 4) Overpriced

oh how i found a decent Thai place finally...modern, clean, and friendly service. came here on a wednesday night and the place is pretty empty roti green curry-delicious. perfectly crispy and flaky. the green curry has a kick to it, but it was so yummy. one of the better roti's i've had the appertizer sampler (2 pieces each), comes with Crispy rolls (dislike, lacked flavor), thai samosa (great flavor, but wisht he skin wasn't so thick), corne cake (to die for), and fried shrimp rolls (good) the tango taro and pumpkin was perfectly fried and it taste best with the roti green curry the papaya salad-fresh and full of flavor. has a pretty intense heat to it the scallops with fried noodle-was good and interesting. the noodles are thick and cripsy. the pad tahi with chicken was really good too, but needs to lighten up on the sauce a lil bit.

I'm actually at more of a 4.5 but, I don't think we can give half stars...I've never eaten in the restaurant, but their delivery service is amazing. I've ordered delivery (completely online, which is a GREAT option!!) several times, and never had to wait more than ~35-40 minutes, even on a Saturday night. Their food is delicious. The chicken satay is a small order, and expensive, but delicious. The pad thai is super delicious, a little "juicy", but really great flavor. The summer rolls are delightful. The prices are high, but it's definitely the best Thai food that I can get delivered to my house!

This place is definitely a cut above your average Thai joint in the city. I came here fort the first time w/ a bunch of friends last Friday for dinner. Like another reviewer said it's got that upscale vibe like Osha, but I'd say more cozy and not as noisy. Now onto the food - It's definitely one of the better Thai restaurants I've been to. Everything had great flavor and the spicy dishes had a ton of kick. If you like spicy, you gotta go for their "Naked Prawns". It's like a Thai version of shrimp ceviche, except it's marinated w/ garlic, chilies and fish sauce. One of the best dishes of the night. But be careful it is REALLY spicy. Other standouts included - Catfish Cha Cha, Roti Green Curry, Pineapple Fried Rice. There's a very extensive wine menu (including flights) which I thought was a really nice touch since you hardly ever find a Thai restaurant serving so many different types of wine. We went w/ an Argentinian Malbec suggested by the owner and it was great. Price wise it's between $$ ~ $$$ depending on if you order wine/dessert. The entire staff is fast, friendly and very helpful (not to mention cute :) ) On more than one occasion the owner or one of the staff came by to check up on us to see how we liked everything. We had a great time and will definitely be coming back.

We went here to have a chill night after having sushi. My friends and I were trying to convince our other friend that wine drinking is a fun experience. I think we might have ruined it for him. We arrived and asked for a wine menu. We ordered 3 flights and I ordered a dessert wine, since I have a really bad sweet tooth. He did not like any of the aromatic wines and sort of liked my Moscato D'asti. I liked the atmosphere, but I feel like their wine selection was not that big. Next time we will try the food since I heard it was pretty good.

First time trying this restaurant; was more excited that they delivered. Probably the best Thai food I've had in a long time. I usually judge a Thai restaurant by their Pad Thai. Basic, I know, but if they do that right, they usually do curries right. Excellent Pad Thai. Moist (most I find are really dry and flavorless) and full of flavor. My partner ordered Red Curry with Pork. He loves spicy food (New Mexico green chilies, frank's hot sauce, etc.) and ordered it medium. He definitely found Medium to be too spice so cut it a little. Overall he said he would definitely order it again, just mild. Two thumbs up!

My friend took us here for dinner and it is probably one of the best Thai restaurant in the city. The restaurant looks very nice but most importantly the food was very tasty. Traditional with a twist. Everything we had were good but the creme brulee stood out the most. You have to have it. The service was fantastic. Very attentive and nice. I will definitely go back.

I wish I had read the other recent review warning not to order delivery from this place. Yet, here I am reiterating this sentiment, over 2 hours after ordering and 3 phone calls later. Don't do it! I was given the runaround twice and none of my requests for ETA were answered. They shamelessly out and out lied to me on the third call with "the delivery guy called but you didn't answer". Wrong, try again. Or actually ... don't.

Good, inexpensive thai food in the inner sunset. Went there for hubby's birthday. The reviews were right -- the Penang Angel Wing was fabulous. The Naked Shrimp was decent, though it did feel a little weird in the beginning thinking about eating raw Thai shrimp (it's like amaebi thai style). Corn cakes was fried perfectly and tasted great with the sauce it came with. People also wrote about the place being loud. We had dinner between 6-8pm on Saturday and it was just low volumn in the background...we barely even noticed it. All in all, great new place and we'll definitely be back (often). Can't wait to try all the other stuff on the menu.

  • Bryan E.

The food wasn't great, and was waaaaaay overpriced. It was just generally flavorless, no spice or vibrance, which is what Thai is supposed to be all about. That being said, the rolls were great.

This has become my favorite Thai restaurant of all time. The guys who run this place are incredibly nice and motivated . The ambience is very relaxing and intimate. THE FOOD !! The food is is unbelievably good. This place is one of those restaurants where no matter what you order - it is bound to be good. Highly recommend the Roti + Green Curry appetizer, and Drunken Noodles. They also have quite an interesting array of curries, and not just the standard red, green, and yellow. The service is spot-on, these guys really work hard, and make your visit worthwhile. Cant stress enough about what an amazing place this is overall. Expect to see this restaurant in the "Best of" section everywhere.

Kind of hip looking for an inner sunset thai food place. But things are changing at 7th ave and Irving. You know with the tattoo shop, fancy tea place, and Inner Fog Wine bar. Pretty good Thai food. Not too expensive. Young croud, young servers, and a decent bar. If you are in the area, try it out and judge for yourself.

Just had dinner here with attentive and friendly, yet non-invasive service. Tried the appetizer platter...average; will try specials next time. Tom kah was perfect for my cold, and Basil fried rice with Pumpkin curry was delicious, both with prawns which were very good size and cooked perfectly. The host helped pick complementary wines which were nice and light. Def will visit again!

  • Maximillian M.

We had: taro & tofu appetizer, papaya salad, drunken noodles, pineapple fried rice, lemongrass beef, stuffed/boneless "angel" wings in curry sauce, and some deep fried eggplant special. All pretty special. Hell, even the brown rice was probably the best I've ever had. Washed down with a glass of Chilean carmenere. Nice downtempo soundtrack, nice atmosphere, and, yes, cloth napkins. Oh, and the outbound N stops right in front.

Go here for ambiance and alcohol just NOT Thai Food. If you want a place to hang out for the night then its cool. They clealy invested in the decor and their plates.Thai Beef Jerky are you kidding me? Burnt beef, sweet 8ss everything (it was just way to sweet for my taste) and the portions are small. Wait staff have no people skills compared to other places in the city where you feel their warmth and kindness. I agree with the other yelpers, that even though this place is a wine bar, they have no concept of how to pair wine with their food. I sat with my friend waiting for it to be over and then headed over to Pluto's to grab a salad and get Baan's food taste outta my mouth.

Checked out this eatery on its 3rd day of business. Menu includes traditional Thai cuisine with a fresh pizazz. Enjoyed a really tasty angel pan fried chicken in a panang curry. Friend and fellow eater had a beef dish with massaman curry. Both dishes were delicious. The ambiance is nice and a bit on the upscale side. Staff are super friendly and were attentive to our table. I will definitely go back and recommend checking out this newbie thai restaurant.

sunday 1pm- not so packed therefore party of 22? perfect! food: I ordered Drunken Noodles with beef (medium spicy) and it was pretty spicy but nevertheless, still good! I actually think the spicyness was perfect- finished my meal with content :) For 8 bucks- I think its a pretty good meal service: super nice and courteous -- a friend couldn't handle the spicyness of his dish and the waiter notices his sweating and suffering so he gave him a separate glass of water with ice cubes

WOW!!! The food was a taste of Thai. None of that American infusion stuff. I was there with 5 adults and 1 infant. We had beef jerky which is a MUST with beer. Chewy, juicy, salty, beefy it came with a hot sauce but you can just eat alone. Payapa sald with the crab was refreshing. One of the best I have had. I ordered it med hot and it was perfect. Make sure you order it sticky rice. Baan Thai also had the naked shrimp, not too many places carry this. It's raw shrimp with garlic, lime, fish sauce, and peppers. Damn, getting hungry again thinking about it. Now to the entrees, we had noodles with beef, I think it was pad see you, its like chow fun. The flavor was good, noodles were chewy as my friend's daughter would say. Lots of beef with vegetables. We had a seafood curry, lots of seafood. They dont skimp on food. Mounds of shrimp, scallops, salmon, clams, mussels, fish, and the curry was sweet with a bit of spice. Again, make sure you order sticky rice so you can use it like bread and scope up the curry. We have pad thai, it was good but nothing special. Make sure you save room for dessert. The sticky rice with coconut milk with mango was great. One of the best I ever had. The coconut ball wth vanilla cake with unique. I didnt except it but it was f*cking goooooddddd. I would reorder for sure. Hostess was friendly and seat us quickly. The staff was friendly but they need to work on checking on tables a little more. We had to flag down the staff to get some more beer/wine couple of times. We had to ask for rice couple of times. Interior was comfortable and modern. I felt like, I was at Matrix Lounge. Techo music was intersting but it worked it wasnt too loud. It was easy talking to people on our table. You didnt have to shout. They have a great wine list. I saw over 50 bottles and they have wine sampling. Now I know why its called a wine bar. They had traditional BIG wine glasses. Beers were nice and cold. I was surprise they didnt have hot tea. I give 5 for food and 4 for service. My new favorite for Thai food. I need to go back and try the pork shoulders. I keep reading its good.

Nice atmosphere, savory food, yummy wine, friendly waiter who gave my friend and me plenty of time & space to gab, gab, gab before ordering. I can't say this place is exceptional but it hits all of the necessary and important aspects of good dining. Food is often spicy but doesn't overwhelm the good taste.

Absolutely the best Thai food around. Great atmosphere, amazing food! The wine selection is out of this world! The staff is super friendly and even went as far as you explain to me why certain dishes are named the way they are. Great food and a cultural lesson! If I could give it extra stars I would!

Rock Star delivery! Very fast. My boyfriend and I are very pleased. The Thai Samosas are fab., everything else tasted very fresh and if it weren't for the intense spice I would have eaten everything in one fell swoop. We asked for a medium and it was very spicy to me but I am a spicey woos. Try and enjoy!

This is a little place but the food is amazing! Easily some of the best Thai food in San Francisco. Service is great, it is pretty cool having flights of wine to choose from. If you haven't been definitely check it out.

  • Secret S.

Eh...this place is just aight. Nothing special except they have a lot more wine than other thai restaurants. Food is decent - nothing really stuck out and the portions really sucked. I don't eat that much to begin with but come on now - where are the noodles in my pad thai and where is the chicken and pineapple in the pineapple fried rice? Giving 3 stars because after the appetizers, wine and meal I was really looking forward to sticky rice and mango only to be disappointed hearing that they aren't serving it during this season -- then um....why is it still on the menu? So the 3 stars is because everything was just a blah and in the end they disappointed so won't be coming back.

I had dinner here the other night with a friend. The tom kha was delish! And the red curry was also above par. If you're in the neighborhood, I recommend checking this place out. However, I wouldn't venture all the way to the inner sunset just to have dinner here. It's good, but not super-fantastic.

My gf and I are huge fans of spicy Asian food. So I recommended going to Irvine St. because I knew that there are many Asian restaurants that we might just find one we'd like. So after walking around on this part of Irvine St. for 10 minutes or so, we decided to try Baan Thai Hourse & Wine Bar. From the outside, you can see this little place is clean and organized. This restaurant is nicely decorated with paintings, vases, wine bottles. I have to admit that this little place is quite interesting compared to other Asian restaurants on the street. As it is named, they have a good selection of wine. But too bad, we didn't feel like drinking at all that night. They do not have a big variety of food, however, comparing to other Thai restaurants I've been to. Let's get to the point :). Since I was very hungry, we ordered 4 dishes for two of us. The waitress was very friendly, definitely A+, who recommended that the portions of most dishes are pretty generous, so 3 might be a good number for two of us. But I went ahead and still ordered 4 dishes. we ordered 4 dishes and requested all of them to be prepared extra spicy. :) 1) Larb with beef ---- although they used ground beef, the salad was very tasty and spicy as we requested. For a salad, it was a good portion with some meat, onion, cilantro, chili over some lettuce. The lime taste was just right. It was too overwhelming like the ones I had from other restaurants. Even though they only used ground beef, but this dish was nicely done overall. I give it a 4.5/5. 2) Since my gf likes things made with coconut milk, I ordered a dish of green curry with chicken ---- the portion of this dish, however, was not as good as we expected. It was quite small. But it was very tasty. Spicy level was nice but could be more. I liked the fact that they cut very fine bamboo shoots, which definitely looked nice as they lay over the dish. I give it a 4/5. 3) Baan rice with beef ---- As I saw "thai chili paste" under the description, I knew this fried rice would be tasty. I was right. This fried rice was soooo good. They added a good amount of basil which really brings out the Thai taste in addition to the thai chili paste. I give it 5/5 4) Spicy eggplant with pork ---- this dish looked very nice but didn't taste as good as it looked. The spicy level was disappointing since we requested it to be prepared extra spicy. I might be a little prejudice here since I cook very good spicy eggplant myself. Both my gf and I rated this dish as the least favorite one out of the four. I give it 3/5. Overall, we enjoyed eating there and next time if we are around that neighborhood, I think I will still go back there because of their charmingly decorated place, very friendly staff, and pretty good quality of food.

I made last minute reservations here a few hours before I was planning to go to dinner. I arrived early and the table was already ready, that is always a plus. Since this is also a wine bar, every single party that was there did have glasses of wine. Their vegetarian pad thai was very good. I added hot sauce and it was even better. The decor is nice and the service was quick.

wonderful addition to the neighborhood! extremely authentic (including the employees), clean, casual yet classy and great prices! if you like a good spice kick, this place plays it well and can cater to your requested spice levels desserts were also amazing, the mango sticky rice had a nice pandan twist and fried bananas with coconut ice cream were perfectly crispy lil balls of heaven. Wonderful wine selection (malbec from Argentina was delicious) including wine flights. FYI - great date spot without breaking the bank :)

Great new Thai restaurant that i just tried today with a friend of mines. The interior was nice with dim lighting. Customer service was great as they checked up on our table multiple times. and the food...it was great too. We tried the Shrimp lovers, Pork shoulder, Tom yum soup and lemon grass beef. The soup i had was medium spicy which i can handle. The Pork tasted perfect.. I'll be back to try the other dishes. All in all, try out this new spot as it wont dissapoint.

This place is great--thai food a little dressed up. The panang angel wings were awesome. Papaya salad was really good. Best mango sticky rice I've ever had. There's some complaints about service on here I found the staff to be super friendly. The owner came over and chatted with us for a bit, she was very sweet and I hope she does well...she has created a really great restaurant!

I'm back again eating in this restuarant and I just finish having their new fried eggplant with grounded meat salad. I found out the Thai name is just eggplant salad or better know as "yum ma-kuer". I like to rename it to yummy ma-kuer because it is that delicious! It is not listed in their menu because is new, but I hope this dish get put in their menu and stay there so I can order it again someday. Their menu don't have pictures, so I won't know if I like something unless I try it. So far so good, I liked the dishes that I've ordered.

I've eaten in about a dozen Thai restaurants in the SF Bay Area and this is by far my favorite. The food is excellent - not to heavy on the sauces - and it has an excellent wine list. My favorite dish is Spicy Basil with ground chicken. Also, the owners and wait staff are some of the most friendly in the city. They remembered the names of all 6 in our family after only one visit!

  • Jamie E.

I'm not a seasoned vet when it comes to Thai food but I've definitely tried many different Thai restaurants in the city. Baan by far has the best Thai food I've tried. My favorite dishes are the drunken noodles, green curry, spicy basil chicken, and of course the mango sticky rice. I can not explain how incredible the drunken noodles are. They are so rich tasting and the vegetables are cooked perfectly. They have a pretty extensive wine list and I like that they have wine from all over the world. The servers are friendly and attentive. Baan is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco and I would venture back to the inner sunset just to eat here.

Living in the neighborhood, we previously frequented Marnee Thai. In one week, I encountered two positive reviews of this place, so I decided to try. They deliver. When I asked for spicy, they didn't skimp. They have items on their menu I haven't seen at other places. The hostess that takes your order is friendly instead of curt. We haven't been back to Marnee Thai since.

Great Thai food. Good prices with a nice ambience. Comfortable seating for 9 of us. We walked over from the De Young Museum for a wonderful lunch with family. The spring rolls, Tom Kha soup and garlic chicken were excellent!

Based on the excellent reviews here on Yelp, my wife and I trekked pretty far across town from our hotel in the Business District. Well, this restaurant was more than worth the trip! I have eaten lots of excellent Thai food, and this restaurant was right up there with the best of them. We arrived late -- just 15 minutes before closing time, but they graciously welcomed us into the restaurant and happily made all of the dishes we asked for. The service was very friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. We started out with a super creamy Thom Yum soup with delicious veggies and perfectly spiced Papaya salad (I requested it "just a little bit spicy" and that's EXACTLY how I got it -- at other Thai places, that request was barely honored as the dish came out so spicy as to be barely edible). For our main courses, we dined on the sublime pumpkin curry (thanks to other reviews for the mention), and a pad thai (slightly sweet, but still delicious) with the nice touch of having been served with ground peanuts, carrot shavings, crunchy bean sprouts, and lime on the side. They were very very accommodating to us as vegetarians, answering our questions about which dishes had meats or meat broth, and offering to substitute steamed ("soft") or fried tofu for the meat/fish in each dish, and withholding the fish sauce from the pad thai. All in all a really nice dining experience, even if it's not the very best Thai I've ever eaten, it was a top notch meal and well worth the trip!

Went here for a birthday meal yesterday after visiting the park. We were craving Thai, and Yelp didn't let us down. The decor was pleasing, and since we were there at an off time (3 pm?), it was a mellow scene. We ordered: Chicken Satay -- a standard for me at any Thai restaurant, and this satay was non-skewered, but tender and delicious! Thai Samosas -- unusual and delicious Spring Rolls - just so-so, not highly flavorful. The mushrooms inside were barely recognizable as mushrooms... the only downer of the meal. Tom Yum Gai -- perfectly sinus clearing and flavorful! The broth was amazing. Chicken Larb - interesting, as the chicken wasn't minced. More like a chicken salad that traditional larb. Lemony, lemon peppery, and very delicious. Lemongrass Beef -- the dish I'd wanted, and it didn't disappoint. It was sauce heavy, but perfect with the steamed rice. Yellow Curry - the person who ordered it really enjoyed it. It was sweeter than I usually care for, but balanced out the other dishes nicely.

stolling along to check out the hood and new options for dining....I came across this gem. Super fan when it comes to Thai, and this place hit the spot. Perusing for a place for take-out, the outside front display didn't seem like much, but the moment I walked in...dark modern ambience (agree w/ other review... semi-Osha feeling), techno music (set the mood just right while i was waiting) and genuinely sweet and personable staff! Food: order Tom Kha soup and Chicken Pad Thai--Yumm... I'm picky when it comes to my chicken coconut soup and they prepared it just right...not too thick, quality chicken and hint of tang with lemongrass, red onions, and a few mushrooms =) Pad Tai had a great sauce consistency and good flavor. I rarely have it with purple cabbage, but I like the added touch (created great color and texture-crunchy along w/ bamboo shoots) definitely will be back! and will eat in too =)

This is a great and under-rated restaurant. The food is fantastic and the service and ambiance wonderful. I believe they are under-rated because they are sharing the neighborhood with Marnee Thai, which is a much more established (and also good) Thai restaurant. However, this is a much nicer restaurant and they do not rush you through your meal like they do at Marnee Thai.

When it opened, we figured.."another Thai restaurant", but after eating there (we figured we'd try it) we were very pleasantly surprised. Wonderful service, great food, (different from other Thai restaurants...very clean, fresh and tasty), We've eaten there 5 times. Try it! and the prices are fair. Jesse

I came here for dinner and was impressed. Food was great and they have a large selection of wine. I like how modern the place looks and feel. The owner was really nice and attentive. A must try is the pork shoulder appetizer, yellow chicken curry, and the fish. I would definitely come back and try the rest of the menu.

Overpriced, very greasy and oily food that is one of the worst Thai places in the city. I love Thai, I had an opportunity to go to this wonderful country a few times and taste authentic cuisine, but this is nothing close. My friend and I both felt this place doesn't know how to cook. The staff is fine - star goes to them, everything else is pass, including tacky "paintings" on the wall

Sigh. Deep sigh. I wanted to fall in love...but like Match.com , I just can't take the plunge for the convenience factor. A wine bar (oooh) AND Thai all-in-one...? 4 of us were anxious to see if this place could be our next Koo, or Pomelo, or Yummy Yummy to pitter-patter down the block to weekly...but helas...the service was atrosh (yes, as bad as my spelling)...a wine bar that caters only to the pinot-drinkin' crowd (so 12 months ago...and by the way, not a pinot on the wine list - 'twas more like a "mixed case" from my local distributor). But the food could make up for it, right? No. We're pretty open to new interpretations of our faves, but a spicy, watery soup does not a curry make. The service could have punched up the atmosphere...friendly, ok, but adequate, not to speak of. Ten, Baan, bah...get take out from Marnee Thai, pop a bottle of Riesling and cue up Tiesto...better...way better. Thai and techno, seriously...? Seriously. Next.

We had the food delivered to our house. The items included the chicken satay, papaya salad, Po Tak soup, Pra Ram, brown rice and Flirty dumplings. I have been eating Thai food for over 30 years. I have had all types of Thai soup usually with seafood combination and satay so many times I couldn't possibly quantify. I can honestly say this was the least pleasant Thai food experience I have ever had. Everyone at the dinner table agreed. We chose Baan Thai because it has very good Yelp Reviews but I have to say, in this instance, the reviews let us down. One positive: their online ordering form is brilliant.

Super service- authentic food and perfect ambience!! Been here multiple times and everything is top notch! It has amazing corn fritter cakes, taro and pumpkin "fries" and the red curry fried rice and pad kee mow -both vegetarian were divine! Not too greasy and just so flavorful. The wine flights are a nice added touch! Perfect for a date night, friends, or someone out of town. You won't be disappointed :) Keep it Baan!

just finished the most delicious panang curry (prepared to picky order, even), roommate says the same about prawn pad thai, and it's one of the two places i've found that will bring me roti. five stars for food, minus one for delivery time - but as they're not just a pump it out and deliver place, so it's a little understandable.

HAPPY HOUR!!! You must go. Seven days a week and a serious steal. $8 wine flights(very generous pours), $3 beers, $4snacks, and much more. The service is kind and non intrusive, sometimes requiring some prompting but it's always a pleasant experience. Best Thai food I've had. Hands down. Authentic and the servers will give great recommendations. Only negative is that if you like really spicy stuff, like me, you have to really convince them cuz they are scared you can't handle the heat ;-) MUST TRY: drunken noodles, pork crispy puffs, mango avo fresh rolls, tom kha, chicken larb. Wine selection is really good for price point! I do not understand why this place isn't packed with a line around the corner all the time. It's gorgeous inside, the food is amazing, the service is great, and the prices are unbeatable.

Ordered pickup from Baan Restaurant & Wine Bar and was not impressed. I ordered the yellow curry, the drunken noodles, two orders of steamed rice, and a side of steamed broccoli. The yellow curry sauce was good and the carrots, potatoes, and onions were well cooked but the amount of chicken they gave was tiny. Not enough meat for an entree, not worth the $12. The drunken noodles were not very good. This was disappointing because drunken noodles are a favorite dish of mine. The entire portion was tiny. Not very much chicken, vegetables, or even noodles, I'm not kidding, this was like 8oz of food total! Only 10$ but still not worth it. The steamed rice was steamed rice nothing special or noteworthy about it. I was glad I added the steamed broccoli it was well cooked and added some much needed sustenance to this meal! Total came out to around $32 and shared between two people we were still hungry afterward. Would not come back.

This is one of my favorite local places to grab a nice glass of wine, some tasty appetizers, and a great meal. The happy hour menu is excellent, with a selection of snacks, cocktails, and wines (by the glass or by the flight) that often lead me to change my "hey, let's get a drink and a snack" plans to a full-blown "hey, let's linger over some drinks and appetizers, and then get dinner!" There are typically lots of tables available during happy hour, and things get busier during meal times. The interior is nicely appointed, and the only criticism I have is that the restaurant can get noisy when busy. Given the excellent food, drink, and location, I'll continue to be back again and again!

I take the N train to and from dental school everyday, and pass by Baan every single day. And read their lovely sign saying "wine bar", and dream of being there instead of school. So finally, I decided I have to get off the train and try the wine bar out. I met some friends there, but we missed happy hour (because I was in class as always). The wine menu was actually not that exciting, so we went with the sangrias, which were good. But more importantly, you have to try the appetizers. We liked all of them! They have a great kick to all of them. The crab fried rice was also really good. Overall, great spot. Now, I have to try the wine bar across the street.

Happy hour?! Yes please! Really nice and cheap wine and sake flights. I've tried the red wine and sake flights - both were really really nice. I actually haven't made it to the actual happy hour (we tried...but missed the mark by 2 minutes), but I've seen the HH menu. Super cheap prices for both alcohol and food. And I do have to say, their food is REALLY really tasty. My favorite dish, BY FAR, is their Tom Yum Soup. My GOODNESS. So so so good. And I love that you can customize your spice level. And BEWARE, if you ask for very spicy, it's SPICY. They don't hold back. I can handle some extremely spicy foods, but their "really spicy" is painful haha. Just wanted to give you guys a good enough warning. Tom Yum Fried Rice is also really really good and my boyfriend loves their angry prawns. Basically, we haven't had a dish here that we didn't like. We'll be coming back for HH...hopefully making it next time.

We found this place because the pictures on Caviar were fantastic, and the pictures didn't lie! The presentation was great, and our server Alex really knew his stuff when he recommended the Rainbow Kale Shrimp Salad (the kale is sautéed crispy, not raw and tough) and the Lemongrass Beef (medium spicy is perfect) We had a conversation with him about cool places to go in Thailand, and spoke with Ning, the owner, about her love for food. She made many of the recipes herself, and I look forward to trying more of them on future visits. We went during happy hour; I enjoyed both of their Sangrias, which are refreshing and tropical but not sugary. Also delicious were the Pork Basil Puffs, very fresh basil taste and no gristle in the ground pork. The decor is asian modern, elegant with pretty art. This is my new favorite Thai place!

Think kind of expensive Thai food, that's what I think of when I think of this place. Ordered delivery and it took over an hour for delivery...I hard ever order delivery, but it can take up to 90 minutes. We had the pumpkin curry, curry noodles, pad se ew, pad thai, basil eggplant, salmon something, mango salad, and a couple of other dishes. I think the best thing was the free expresso creme brulee which you get free when you order $50 or more online. Overall, it's alright, but I don't think I would seek this place out.

Ordered delivery from eat 24. I ordered papaya salad, larb pork, and Tom yum, and sticky rice. I called before ordering to ask if they had salty crab for the papaya salad and they said they did so when I placed my order on eat24 I asked for salty crab, medium spice. Same for the larb. When I received my order I was completely disappointed. There was no salty crab and my papaya salad was not even close to being slightly spicy. The food had NO flavor. I contacted them and they said can't give me a refund. Never coming back here. The worst Thai food I have ever had.

Nice atmosphere but the food here was just okay. I got the pineapple fried rice which really lacked flavor. My friend got the mongolian beef which nearly burned her tongue off from being too spicy. They did have a nice choice of wine flights though. Wouldn't go back here based on the food.

This place was great! Lots of drinks and lots of options. We came in on a Thursday night and got a table really fast. The avocado rolls were delicious, but the roti was a bit oily. Great thai spot in the sunset for dinner!

I order delivery from Baan Thai on a weekly basis. They usually deliver to my house in less than an hour, and the food is consistently delicious. Pad thai and pad se ew are my go-tos. I've also tried their larb and most of their curries, all very good. Note that their "Vegetarian" option on most dishes comes with fried tofu by default. If you request steamed tofu, they seem very happy to oblige!

Baan exceeded my expectations. Their service is impeccable, the best I have had in this city. Alex is a very attentive waiter and very willing to share tons of useful information for my future travels. My glass was never empty and the food looked and tasted even better than I imagined. Ning created two of the dishes we had: pork basil puffs and the rainbow kale shrimp salad which were absolutely amazing. This is the best Thai food I have ever had...and my leftovers are beckoning...

Thank you Yelp! I was looking for a place to host a birthday dinner, and Baan Thai was the only place that met my narrow criteria of being good for groups, close to campus, within a grad-student-friendly budget, a reasonably nice ambiance, and Yelp Elite worthy food. So I went ahead and made a reservation for 20 (memorable phone conversation: "20?! Really? Okay.") [THE FACADE] We arrived and were surprised that it turned out to be this place--the very classy-looking place that everyone passes by on Irving but thinks is too fancy and expensive. It's actually one of those restaurants that's super nice but very affordable. I didn't know it was it was such a small and intimate setting and was beginning to feel bad for taking up half the restaurant. Inside it's dark and cool, with a theme of black and a colorful, enchanting alcohol display in the back. The wooden furniture is elegantly accented by centerpieces of fake flowers and stones in water, making it feel even more calm and relaxing. [THE SERVICE OF GOOD INTENTIONS] Props and respect goes to them for putting up with my birthday invasion of pharm school kids. They were very friendly, though they are much better at handling small volumes of customers because you could tell they were getting slightly flustered. Also, it was called to my attention that one of my friends didn't get her food until everyone around her had finished eating. Overall though, I've always been impressed by their courtesy and patience. [CLASSY DRANKS] Being a birthday celebration, of course we had to have some liquid festivities. We got the ultra-classy-sounding SOJU FLIGHT. I don't remember which one specifically (no I didn't get that drunk, this is just a #laterreview). They had interesting overtones, yet were wonderfully smooth. [CLASSY FOOD] Classy means served on square plates with photogenic garnishes, rather than on a pile of noodles on an oval plate. Though not absolutely mind-blowing, presentation here is quite beautiful. I've tried the PAD THAI, PAD KEE MAO (called rice noodles with broccoli or something uninintuitive), PAD GUA KAI (pad kee mao's lesser-known cousin with squid), LEMONGRASS CHICKEN, and JUNGLE CURRY, all of which are decent. Just like how you judge boba shops by their standard PMT, I judge Thai restaurants by their pad thai, and I really liked how it was very balanced here, not too fishy, spicy, tomato-y, or peanut-y. Be warned, however, that they take spicy very very seriously. For the pad kee mao, we asked for not spicy and it was spicy; when I ordered it spicy I was dying. I thought I could handle spicy decently until that point. They serve room-temperature water, not iced water, so I almost began tearing up. Tip: They have unsolicited lunch specials on weekdays at reduced prices; it comes out to about the same as Marnee, only it's way more comfy. Dinner prices are about $11 for standard noodle entrees. [DPH CONCERNS] I always scratch my head at why the health score is 72. It seems pretty clean to me, and I haven't gotten sick from eating here so far (except mild discomfort from dose-limiting spiciness, but that's my own fault). [THE VERDICT] Congrats, Baan Thai, I think you've become one of my staples. It's surprisingly close to campus, affordable, and delicious. I do however need to restrain my random banh mi cravings when I think of this place and diverge them Baan Thai cravings.

Great family run (I think this is owned by a family?) restaurant. We enjoy their evening and weekend (all day!) happy hours. The wine selection is incredible and the food super fresh and delicious. The seating is plush and comfortable, the lighting dim as I like it, and the music is cool.

Thai food done right. Very flavorful and spiced up nice and hot (if that's your jam). Everything tastes fresh and goes perfectly with their affordable wine selection. Modern ambiance with a cozy neighborhood feel. Friendly staff too!

Overall rating id say 3.5/5, but I'll just round it up to 4 stars since they had the best. iced. coffee. ever. No really, it's bomb. Try it The food is good here! But just a tad bit pricier than other thai restaurants I've been to. I ordered the pad Thai ($10) but that doesn't include a protein. So if you want shrimp, chicken or beef then that's $12, but if u want it with a seafood combo or duck then it's $13. I went with duck. And was it good? Yes, but was it worth it? Nope. It's pretty sweet so if u like your food on the sweeter side, then u should give this pad Thai a try! They're service is okay.. It's kinda slow but there was a big party on the day I went so that's probably why. They could be a bit more friendly tho

I'm always scared to eat here because the restaurant looks very small and is usually pretty crowded. Besides, I live so close, I might as well try to save some $ and order takeout instead. They also deliver too (although it usually takes about 60-90 minutes, depending) so I don't see the point of me having to dine-in. Ah, the joys of getting older--you become a lazy homebody. The noodle dishes are more 3-3.5 stars, but the curries are superb. I absolutely love the roti green curry app and the creamy, colorful panang. They're not afraid to crank up the spice, as three bites of that green curry is usually enough to leave me in tears. Portions are on the smaller side for a Thai restaurant, but I personally think it's worth it (my husband, less so). If you're vegan/vegetarian, there are also numerous options for you here. I've heard several good things about their sake and wine flights--in fact, I wanted to wait until I tried them before writing this review, but I think at this rate, that won't be happening soon (cue sheepish grin). So if you are reading this with the intent on dining at Baan, get the wine flights! And if you're deciding where to do happy hour, go to Baan Thai!

Great food and great take out service up until today. Today was not so great. I had Crying Tiger and there was a smaller portion of meat and it had a grainy texture. Must be a new management or shitty cook. The rice looked weird and was Off white. The Calamari was like 8 pieces. For the price, not a good value. Very disappointed today. Will most likely not return. It only takes one terrible experience to ruin a good thing. I used to debate this place with friends and family. I have my tail between my legs tonight. Shame on you, Baan. You disappointed my big time.

Super yummy food. Mango curry was sooo delicious, though the pork was a bit chewy. The eggplant dish was amazing as well (with beef). Fresh and fried spring rolls were also great. Smaller portions and more expensive than most Thai restaurants, but the food seems to be better quality and better tasting than most as well.

I'm obsessed with everything Thai at the moment, so I had to try this place! I shared the following (I'm not that crazy :P): - Crab fried rice: easily the beeest thing we had. Flavorful and not skimpy on the crab. - Green curry: good, but not the best curry I had. Started to taste kinda weird near the end? Not sure how to describe. - Pad see-ew: good, but not the best I've had. I had just had an amazing Thai experience a while before, so it's hard to be too excited, but I'd say solid food. What was a little weird was that at the end of our meal, the waitress told us that their credit card machine didn't work. Whaaa. None of us had cash, so I had to walk to a bank nearby (no Chase :(). Would have been nice to know ahead of time, especially since it's a slightly fancier place that you'd assume would take card.

Came here to have a glass of wine and appetizer. The Chardonnay flight which is complimentary to curry dishes did not disappoint! $13 for a flight of three wines, true myth Chardonnay from Edna valley, la playa sauvignon blanc from chile and a Riesling Marinetti from chile. Happy hour had 4 crispy egg rolls for $4, yum!

Fabulous spot. Shrimp green curry with brown rice was deliciously spicy. Dumplings get five stars because they used chicken, not pork, and were served with a delish red chili sauce. Thai Samosa was a tasty take on a Pakistani classic. But the best was the dessert -- fried banana with sticky rice and coconut ice cream. Too delectable. My friend brought her baby with her, and the restaurant was very accommodating. Service was slightly slow, but the food was superb. Give this place a try. It isn't that pricey.

I've always really enjoyed my experiences at Baan Thai House so it's a bummer when poor service clouds past positive memories. My mom was in town visiting and we were both craving thai food. We typically do Marnee Thai - but I remembered our last enjoyable meal at Baan Thai House and felt that it might be a better option since Marnee Thai is usually bustling with people. We walked over to Baan Thai. Only one other couple was in the restaurant eating when we arrived. We were told that we could sit anywhere. A couple of seconds later the only host/waitress working asked if we had reservations. Glancing around at the empty room - we told her no. My mom noticed that with daylight savings time - it was still happy hour. She asked the waitress in regards to it and the waitress told her it was over. We both looked at Baan Thai's clock and explained that the clocks had been turned back. The waitress agreed and then that was that. She never asked if we wanted anything. She never asked if we needed anything. My mom and I both decided what we wanted to order and we just sat there. The waitress appeared to know that we were ready - but she made no effort to come over. Even when we tried to get her attention - she seemed pretty disinterested in helping. It would be one thing - if the place was busy - but there was only one other couple in the room and they were already eating. We felt strange just sitting there looking at our closed menus. We waited a couple of minutes longer. Still no effort was made to take our order. Even to check in on us. And so we decided it would be better to take our business somewhere where the servers would be more inclined to take our order and where they actually seemed intent on taking our order. We walked over to Marnee Thai - where we were seated promptly. Our order was taken right away. And we walked out satisfied. Trust.

All my friend really seem to crave is Thai food so here we are... We came on a Saturday afternoon and found it surprisingly empty. We got great service though and I loved the modern feel of the place. We ordered the crab fried rice, green curry and pad see yew. All were good, but wasn't anything special from alt the other crab fried rice, gren curry and pad see yews that I've had. Everything had good flavor though and a good kick of spice if asked. Overall, I like the atmosphere, there's great service and the food was good.

Been wanting to try this place out for months since i moved to Irving Street. We hh across the street at Innerfog many times and thought we should give Baan a try. Four girls walked in on Tuesday evening and were seated immediately. It is a very cute place, dark romantic decor, huge paintings, the bar lights up romantically. We each ordered a different 'flight' to taste, the red, the bubbly and i had the french white. All were great and paired well with Thai spices =) -Appetizer Platter with crab rangoon, spring rolls, soft spring rolls, and chicken satay (great way to taste a bit of everything) Fresh/crunchy/Tasty, not oily/greasy!! -Basil Eggplant...can't get enough of this stuff, it was sooooo good, garlic-y and loads of basil (yuuuum) -Papaya Salad - love the tangyness of this but the sauce were not overbearing -Roti Green Curry (ahhhhhhhhhhh, it's gooooood stuff) not your typical yellow curry flavor. just kept dipping into the sauce! -sticky rice (green heart shaped =) with fried banana and coconut ice-cream (need i say more...?) must try!

I think the only complaint I had was that I wished there was more food. Our combination of appetizers was rather small for the price. We did like the lemongrass beef and exotic seafood, which are a part of the specials. Ordered from Eat24, fast and friendly server :)

We have been to Baan so many times in many occasions. I have drafted some review for them but I thought I would give them many many tries so maybe I would experience better. Here is my conclusion for the place: 1. very nice decor, not too crowded. Great for a group and for any meals that needs a lot of conversation. 2. Very slow service at lunch. Only one waitress working who barely looked at us. Service at dinner time is a bit better but still slow. 3. Price is higher than average and the portion is smaller. 4. I like their famous drunken noodle dish. But whatever you order, do not order the Panang dish, which consists of only the soup and meat. Absolutely nothing else in the dish. I even asked the waitress is this how the dish is supposed to be, and she said yes. You can google panang curry or Phanaeng curry and will see how to actually looks. 5. They do add MSG in the dishes, so don't forget to ask no msg if you don't want.

Got take out through yelp after being quiet indecisive in choosing what to eat. I swear it took me almost an hour to come to a conclusion that this is were I want to eat.. Delivery time: 14mins (impressive on a Friday night) Food: Pineapple roast duck curry: delicious and welcoming to the hungry college student. 10/10 Tom Sa soup: warm and aromatic, not too spicy but overall would get again. I usually don't like soup but I love Thai food overall and like to try new things. It needed a bit more tang to it though but that's me. 9/10 side of brown: good, just good Total $25 with tip. Will come again!

Delicious! I ordered curry noodle and holy basil dish and they are yumm. Delivery came quick. This may be my go to thai delivery restaurant. Medium spicy is perfect for me. It has a good kick but not too much where I can't taste my food. I don't think I dare to order spicy :) For those who are sensitive to spice, yqoi might want to keep it mild.

Very good Thai food, some of the best in the area in fact. And I love the fact that they do wine flights (very reasonable prices and VERY generous pours). Makes for a great casual spot to meet friends. No reservation required, even on a Friday. 3 of us got out for $30 pp, and we all had a flight of wine. I've also ordered take-out from here and the food is always made quickly and piping hot when I pick it up. Get the green curry and Pad See Ew - my staples for testing the legitimacy of any Thai place :)

Here is a very good Thai restaurant. The food was a little spicy but very good. The lemon beef and the Pad Thai were excellent. The service was very friendly and attentive. The place looked quite expensive but the price was very reasonable. We came without reservation and were seated right away. The waiter came over within minutes and quite friendly. Overall it was a pleasant dinner experience It was a solid 4 Star.

Baan has the best pad thai in SF. I have been going here for years and the awesome servers here know me by now, and don't need to ask what I want lol. Service is friendly and efficient, nice ambiance. They have a lot of vegetarian options for the hubby, and are always flexible with any special requests. He always orders the spicy string beans and the eggplant clay pot. Highly recommended!

This is a nicely decorated restaurant with really yummy food. We ordered the sunset pork, papaya salad, Tom Ka (a coconut soup), and a cat fish dish and they were all very flavorful and delicious. The servers are friendly, and the atmosphere is excellent. A great place to go on a date or just to have a great meal with a few great friends. I had a fabulous time and will definitely go back.

This eatery is not your typical Thai place that you would find in the city. a trendy decor is nice,I love the all the dark wood that was used., and the paintings that decorate the place, very nice atmosphere. Now I've been back a few times and always the experience is good.I always seem to order the same items :Sunset pork and sticky rice.I'm not sure what they marinated the pork in but it is awesome, comes grilled and sliced served over lettuce and with this lime flavored spicey dipping sauce.couple that with the sticky rice and it's outstanding,I just love the texture cooked just right so it is still juicy. I have also tried the Lovers prawn which was an appetizer also served with some condiments over a lettuce leaf had some kick to it.was great. now I love my sweets so far I've tried this coconut ball cake they have .basically a ball of white cake, filled with rasberry jam, cream, with cream on the outside and covered in coconut shavings.they also have this chocolate mouse type desert that is really good.I just can't remember the name of it,definately worth saving some room for after dinner. Now this place is a wine bar also, now i don't drink alcohol but alot of my friends do.so I have brought some friends by and they really like the wine selection, I think they had a tasting you can do something about tasting like two or three different sample wines.everyone seem to have enjoyed this very much. and for you non alcoholic drinkers they do have a home made lemonade that is refreshing, unfortunately the run out pretty fast.so if you got a chance to try it go for it. . The wait staff was very friendly and informative and answered my questions to the best of their abilities.I find that very helpful because i do have some food allergies .so if you are allergic to anything please inform the staff. This is a great place to try if you are in the area. also good for a taking a date to, the time you spend there will be very pleasant. give it a shot i'm sure you will enjoy it. I will continue to update the rest of you Yelpers as i continue to go there and explore the rest of this establishments menu. cheers. *Update*6/16/10 So yelpers just wanted to update my current visit.so my friend and i came in on saturday night we had gotten a seat before the rush. so they had this appetizer special , was some sort of skewered prawns looked grilled had a real kick to it was good.then myfriend and i ordered my usual :sunset pork and sticky rice,we also ordered angel wings in panang curry sauce and a salmon salad, and for desert a espresso creme brule was awesome.the angel wings were boneless and stuffed with meat and veggies with a sauce with kick to it. the salmon salad had a sweet like dressing to it ,I think papayas and sliced almonds.overall was a great meal and evening.

Delicious Thai Food and super friendly service. There is something about their chicken curry -- it tastes more chicken-y than most chicken I've had. You'll understand when you try.

i have to say i havent seen too many thai restaraunts with a 4 and a half star rating. so on my anniversary my girlfriend and i decided to try it out. the place looked nice and we were both excited because of our love for thai food. we ordered the dumplings which tasted good and very spicy. also we got the seafood combo or somrhtingl like that. Which cost us $18, i dont know what kinf od seafood they have but 18 bucks for some sauce and seafood is a little outragous based in the 2 $$. we also got eggplant with beef and shrimp. we got wne i got red she got white. all of it tasted good, until the next day when i sence my stomach start to bubble and feel like i have brock lesnar punching me int he gut. i had a temprature and im guessing food poisining because i was throwing up and had diaria for that night and the whole day after. im not saying its a bad place, but i would approach with caution. place is classy, but a chance of food poisining.

We had a delivery, ordered lemongrass beef and chicken satay but it was not really tasty. The flavours were pretty weak and the price overall expensive. I don't recommend it. But maybe it's different there in the restaurant.

This review is for their delivery (on a Friday night at 8ish pm). One of the worst Thai deliveries I've ever ordered. Got the green curry with beef and red curry with chicken and a jasmine rice and a brown rice. The green and red curries came in their respective opaque plastic containers. The green curry container had a 1/3 less content than the red despite paying more for beef. Neither was filled near capacity. Each curry consisted mostly of sauce followed by bamboo shoots with very little representation of other promised veggies. The meat was def on the drier/stringier side in each. Delivery came 30 min ahead of Grughub estimates (projected to take 1.5-2 hours).

I came here for lunch and there was only one other party eating inside. I wondered why this place wasn't more busy during lunch. I ordered the Tom Yum soup. The soup was very good and had a nice amount of spice to it. For the main dish I had the Kua Kai and it was great. I liked the flat rice noodles. There was a good amount of chicken and the dish had good flavor. Service was very good. The food came out fast and my water glass was never empty. There was an error on my bill but the waiter quickly fixed it. It seemed like the computer wasn't giving the lunch menu price on some items.

This is one of the better options you can choose in inner sunset. This and Marnee Thai are the best in the Sunset. If you want better surroundings and service come here. Its very elegant. The staff was so kind when my gf and I stumbled in from the rain almost at closing after both having horrible nights. I was so thankful for how considerate they were. The food is always excellent. Its one of the spicier Thai places I've ever been to which I love. The Basil Pork Puffs and Catfish Cha Cha are the best things on the menu and are unique only to Baan Thai. Also great veggie green curry and duck red curry So worth it. Enjoy!!!

So far this is my favorite Thai spot in SF. I got the basil eggplant with chicken and we split the chicken larb. Both were EFFING YUMMY. They have wine and sake flights too! I will most definitely be back for their happy hour deals, every day from 4-7, I think.

Came here on valentines day without a reservation. We were seated right away at a bench/booth table by the window. The restaurant was decorated sweetly for the holiday with single rose at each table. I ordered a flight of three wines for $14 and was very pleasantly surprised when our server brought out three generously filled full-sized glasses. My date had a ginger ale, which was brought out in a tall fancy glass. We had the samosas and corn fritters to start- both were hot & fresh with a tasty side of pickled cucumber and red onion in a tangy sauce. For my entree I had the pumpkin curry with tofu. It was substantially spicy, which I appreciated. The vegetables tasted fresh and the tofu was perfectly cooked. My date and I shared a side of brown rice (also delicious) but in retrospect I wish I had gotten my own so I could sop up all of the delicious curry. My date ordered the pad prik king and loved it. We tried to order the mango with sticky rice for dessert but were told that mango was out of season. Service was great. Overall a very nice experience.

Roti Green Curry ($7.00): Oily, but the sauce was so bomb! Also, the crispy outside and simi soft inside. Sooo GOOD. s3-media3.ak.yelpcdn.com… Thai Samosa (2 pieces $8.00): Too starchy for me. Just a lot of potatoes and the sauce that came with it was just sweet syrup. Not sure if it was the right sauce, I ended up using the curry from the Roti dish to make this one taste good. ~No picture~ Curry Puff (forgot the price): This was also really good. The crispy skin and the mushy curry stuffing inside. The curry was very noticeable. Perfect balance. s3-media1.ak.yelpcdn.com… Po Tak Soup ($12.00): Not a fam of this soup. There was just something really off about the taste of the seafood. s3-media2.ak.yelpcdn.com… Angry Prawns ($14.00): Not a fan. It wasn't even angry. It was just meh, I realized their seafood dishes are really bad. It is as if their seafood was sitting out in the heat for hours and giving off that bad seafood taste. s3-media4.ak.yelpcdn.com… Spicy Chicken Green Curry Noodle ($10.00): I really liked this dish. The green curry was very noticeable in this dish. It wasn't too dry and sticky like some noodle dishes, perfect balance, nothing over powered the other things in this dish. s3-media1.ak.yelpcdn.com… Fire Cooked Beef with Basil and Chili Sauce ($14.00): Meat was tender and string beans were fresh. As for flavor, it wasn't memorable. My taste buds didn't say "I want more!" s3-media2.ak.yelpcdn.com… Lychee Green Tea ($3.00): A lot of lychee syrup. It was yummy and refreshing. s3-media1.ak.yelpcdn.com… Overall, their appetizers were awesome! Everything else was just mediocre.

Two words. RAW CHICKEN. We've been going to Baan Thai for about a year, but in the last several months, the quality and service has really gone downhill. On two occasions in the past few months, we've ordered food and the order (no custom items) has been incorrect. Fine. Extremely annoying that it seems to be a new standard, But this is the last straw. I ordered some pineapple fried rice and started to eat some and noticed the chicken was a strange texture. After digging around, I found several pieces of raw chicken. Not just undercooked, but very obviously pink raw chicken. Absolutely disgusting. If I'm ill, I'll know why. When I called to complain, I only got a "I'll have my manager call you as soon as possible." No offers of picking up the bad food (they have a delivery guy), sending a new order, refunding the order...nothing. It's been over half an hour now...and still nothing. Dangerous undercooked food should not be followed by horrible customer service. I've owned and worked in restaurants, and this is not how I would've handled the situation. Update: The manager didn't call. I had to go back to the restaurant myself to return the food and ask for a refund. Seriously? I wish I could give negative stars.

Tasty panang curry with chicken and coconut soup! Fast delivery. My roommate had coincidentally ordered delivery from a place near here 10 minutes before I placed my call, and mine came first. :) Beware if you're a wimp when it comes to spice, though, because I asked for it with "only chicken" and it came with chicken but also red peppers sliced up, amping the hot factor significantly. But all around amazing and I'll order from there again.

Friday night girl sesh over pinot noir. Summer rolls, Vegetable delight, Jungle Curry. The summer rolls were petite, standard, but probably the best part of our meal. The vegetable delight and jungle curry were the EXACT same dish except for one was on a plate and the other in a bowl. MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT. While I cannot refer back to their menu at this point since the jungle curry is not listed, it's the exact same vegetables in the vegetarian delight except for bamboo shoots instead of bean sprouts. Tasteless, boring, curry-less, and worse of all, our bill was $60. If I didn't happen to have great company, I'd say this was a total waste of an evening and my hard earned money. The only reason why I gave it 2 stars is because really, this might be an okay spot for a glass of wine and an app. That's it.

I ordered the delivery through EAT24 online last night. We had Chilies and Holy Basil, Tom Yum Soup and Pad Se Ew Noodles. The delivery time was around a hour and the food was okay. Pad Se Ew wasn't as great as other reviews said. However, the reason I just gave them 3 stars is I don't understand why Chilies and Holy Basil didn't come with rice? Usually, this kind of dish would come with rice. Make sure you ask them if the dish comes with rice when you order next time.

Twas a night of wine-bar hopping and our selected destination was the inner sunset. We started off at the Inner Fog, located directly across from Baan Thai House, but left only after a few glasses of wine since we found the ambiance to be quite snooty. Let's just say, it (InnerFog) isn't our scene. Luckily, our night continued on when we noticed that there is another "wine bar" directly across the street! Immediately, I took out my iPhone and made a reservation via OpenTable. Ode to being high tech! I wasn't sure what to expect from Baan since it looks more like a restaurant but once we took a peek at the menu I felt a lot less unsure. You see, they have a menu just for wine tasting and not only does the names of the flights sound pleasing-- with names like light and floral, Zin City, etc-- but the prices are very affordable as well. I ordered two flights (6 generous glasses) for myself. Needless to say, I walked out red-faced and feeling myself. On my 2nd visit, I was pleased to find out that they kept the names of the flights the same but have switched out the wines a bit. It definitely makes me want to come back more often knowing that their wine selection switches up every two months or so. In my drunken stage, I did order an order of the Chan Pad Poo, one of my favorite Thai dishes. Mr. Dubs and I were impressed by the taste and both agreed that we would be back for it again one day. If you're looking for a good time with good food and wine, I highly recommend coming to Baan Thai.

Okkkkkkkkk. Delivery guy calls to tell me that he simply can't find my apt. Calls twice in fact. Then calls again to ask me to go downstairs to meet him, and he's not there. Windy and freezing, game of thrones on pause, me outside. I call him back to see where he is and it turns out he misread the address. So another 10/15 tacked onto delivery. Now I regret tipping the most on my cc (20%) and wished I had done it after the experience. I know that people make mistakes but this one is particularly annoying, also seeing that they've forgotten my Thai iced tea more than once. Can you guys get a gps or something??? Food is always good.

My 2nd time here. My first experience was nice. They didn't take too long for our order and good customer service. But this time, they were pretty slow with everything. They didn't talk to us the whole time and they forgot our dessert which made us sit on our ass even longer. They had already taken a real long time to just collect our dishes. The food was still pretty good, Nothing crazy amazing but everything tasted fresh and not over cooked. I am a new fan of their crab fried rice.

So, So SO good. I had the Pad See Ew, and the flat wide noodles were SO tasty! The ambiance is great as well, so clean and although it IS a hole in the wall, it is certainly no janky establishment. Oh and the highlight? The waitress was mega-cute! Definitely wanted to ask for her number, but couldn't muster the courage, oh and it's kinda weird. Hey maybe she'll read this and then I can take her out to thai food at Baan!

Finally, the best Pad Thai I've found in the Bay Area! I was ecstatic the first time I came here and tasted it. Some people like their Pad Thai to be spicy, but I'm a fan of the saucy and sweet variety. They are very quick with their take out (ten minutes or less) and always bring your food to you quickly when you are dining in. The server was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. My friends were all very happy with their meals and beverages. The portions are large (which didn't stop me from eating the entirety...). There is a nice ambiance to the restaurant itself, the lights were dim and it was romantic and calming. I'm living in the area for the summer and expect to become a regular there, perhaps I'll even deviate from my typical order (but probably not).

Baan Thai is a nice, neat Thai restaurant that's great for groups. I've come here during lunch with 6 to even 12 people! We never had to wait or make reservations, but their food was still delicious (and warm even after 12 people's orders), and service was friendly and fast. They also have an awesomely cheap lunch menu, with a wide selection of curries, noodles, and fried rice. I've tried the drunken noodles, curry noodles, pad see ew, and green curry. I would recommend them all. They also happily split your bill for you with no maximum number of credit cards. I've never drank here, but there is also a bar in the back.

Went here for first time tonight at 9pm. We were seated quickly, but restaurant was definitely understaffed. There was one poor girl who was the waitress AND the hostess. Several tables around us were looking pissed and hungry. We even saw one girl walk up to hostess stand with her glass and ask for more water. We were getting hungry ourselves so we tried to grab her attention. She smiled and acknowledged us twice, but still wasn't able to come by after 10 minutes. So, we left to go to another Thai restaurant a few blocks away. I was disappointed - the reviews looked great and waitress seemed nice. I hope this place invests in more staff and better processes.

Reason for 2 stars is this business is highly disorganized. Went in for takeout. Ordered gave card. Food came with what looked like receipt. I left. Waiter came out to car and said i hadn't paid. After discussion. I gave him the card again told him if charged twice I would decline bill. OK. Went back in. He ran the card and i left again. He came out to car again and said i had the wrong receipt even though they looked alike. OK. Went home. Found he had left paid for desserts out of bag but did not feel like driving back and repeating the above. There are many thai places in SF. This one isn't special. I would advise you to go elsewhere

I ordered take out from Baan Thai House and Wine Bar on a Friday night. My food was ready at the time promised, and the whole transaction was pretty smooth; I was in and out in just a couple of minutes. The pad see ew ($10) with chicken was neatly packaged in a sturdy, leak-proof box and placed in a large brown paper bag. They didn't include a fork/napkins, but I was bringing it home anyway, so I guess it didn't really matter. When I opened the box, the food was only warm, so I heated it up again. There was a good amount of broccoli, a fair amount of chicken, but not many noodles at all. The overall flavor was okay, but I ended up using quite a bit of hot sauce for some extra flavor. Overall, I don't think I'd get take out again. The price was not too much, but there are other more budget-friendly options if you're going to be getting take out. With that being said, the restaurant does look pretty nice inside. During the couple minutes that I was in the restaurant, it seemed like the guests seem to be enjoying themselves. Maybe I will try it out again at some point.

There is a lunch menu which isn't available online and to let you know, it is cheaper than the dinner and the portions are still big. I can't imagine the portion for dinner... All the curries and fried rice dishes are basically 8 dollars. I like spicy and she said the green curry was the most spicy so I got that one. We asked her to fry the tofu before putting it in the curry and she was completely fine with it. I heard that the pumpkin curry is also really good. There was one waitress for 3-4 parties and yet, service was very timely. Impressed... Surprised by how nice it was inside, maybe they should work on their front? Unless it's a nice surprise factor.

Ordered takeout from Baan via Grubhub. My food arrived on time, although why it takes an hour to deliver I'll never understand... But I digress. The highlight was definitely the chan pad pu (crab and noodles). SO delicious. I didn't want to stop eating it! The pumpkin curry was pretty good - although I think Osha and Thailand (the other thai places I regularly order from) make it better. The papaya salad was just ok, I like the one at slanted door better. It's a little pricier than some of the other thai options in the area, so I guess I would have expected everything to be really good or excellent rather than just good.

What makes me happy? What puts a smile on my face? It's those little delectable Corn Cakes! I previewed the menu, and was so surprised to see Appetizer: Corn Cake Fritters looking back at me! Where to eat tonight...let me see...Baan Thai, quickly! But that's not all the goods you will find, spicy eggplant with the meat of your choice, grilled flakey greatness salmon on top of lettuce with mango jewels and sliced almonds galore. A light dressing tickles your tounge, and if you're like my Fabulous Friend, you will have gotten the Angel Chicken - made specially spicey upon request, oh yes. Curries, stickers, salads and rice. A spectacular wine list makes this venue twice as nice. Intimate space and very cheerful, helpful staff I was paying my bill and already knew what to get when I came back!

Came here on a thursday evening around 6:30 Got seated right away We were celebrating a birthday and we brought a cake. They kindly put it in the fridge for us. We ordered the green beef curry was good with rice and had the right level of spicy ness . Pad string beans with minced pork was good. With white rice Pineapple fried rice was good!! even though I don't usually eat that. Pad see ew with chicken didn't try it but looked good. Wait staff were on top of there game And they even helped us light candles which i forgot to bring for the birthday cake I would eat here again if I was In the neighborhood:)

Food's pretty good. Wine's nice. The portions are decent. The place is mostly empty most days though. I wonder how they make money. It's a bit pricey for what it is worth, but now that I'm cooking for myself, most places are pricey. The staff was good, but it wasn't anything amazing. Just decent.

My husband and I stumbled upon this little restaurant a few weeks ago. I was pouting over how hungry I was so we went & are extremely glad we did! The atmosphere is peaceful, the walls are embellished in beautiful paintings, the service is quick & friendly & the food...oh dear GLOB!...the food is aromatic, savory & perfectly portioned! I had the duck pineapple curry lunch special & my husband had the cashew nut chicken. We cleaned our plates, sipped our thai ice tea until the last drop then agreed that we would make it a point to eat at Baan every time were in the neighborhood.

We recently returned and tried the crying tiger salad and the tangy exotic seafood dish. The salad was small, but very tasty - essentially a seared and sliced beef "larb". The tangy exotic seafood was just OK - squid and shrimp in a mildly sweet, tangy sauce with some sauteed onions. Neither were as good as the lemongrass beef, but still a decent option in the neighborhood.

3 stars for the food, but an extra star for the super cute wine tasting flights!!! That is definitely the unique feature that makes this restaurant worth coming back to. They have 5 different ones you can choose from with 3 wines in each one. I got the one with the sparkling wines. It just made our dining experience more fun. The decor is really cute and clean and the waitstaff was very attentive.

I order delivery from Grub Hub, and to put it quite frankly...I will never do that again. I got the drunken noodles and the pumpkin curry chicken (medium spice level) per the recommendations of my fellow yelpers. In all fairness, there could be a chance that the food is better if you physically go in to the restaurant. But my experience was so terrible that I will not be returning Drunken noodles: soggy, over salted Pumpkin curry chicken: all around disgusting, avoid at all costs. I also ordered a thai tea, I freaking love thai tea! But I never received my beverage!! I call grub hub and they said they would refund me for just the tea. 10 minutes later there's a knock at my door and its the delivery man with a watered down Thai tea (all the ice had melted). When I tried the Thai tea is was sickeningly sweet...even watered down. So I can't imagine how sweet it is when its served correctly. A couple weeks later and I still haven't been refunded for my Thai tea. It's not the biggest deal considering it was $3.00. But I will not be returning to Baan Tha

Not that impressed. I've had better Thai at Marnee. I ordered soup and my friends ordered pumpkin curry and noodles. They brought my soup first and I waited 15 minutes for my friends to get their plates. The waitress even asked if my soup was OK. I told her I was waiting for my friends to get their meal as it would be rude to eat without them. Eventually, they told me to go ahead and eat without them. By that time, the soup was ice cold. Speaking of cold, the whole restaurant was freezing inside and they had no heat on. I looked around and every customer had their coat still on; including the staff. The service was really friendly, though. The staff were attentive and gracious. I would give 3 stars, but cold soup really turned me off.

I ate here twice, once for lunch and another for dinner. The first time (lunch) was with my professor, so I wasn't too focused on eating to begin with, so I don't remember how the food tasted then. The second time was with my husband, so I was able to fully engage in the dining experience. The atmosphere is very nice. Clean, hip, not too loud. The service was good, and the food came out relatively fast. The problem came up with I tasted the food. We ordered beef pad-see-ew and chicken larb salad. Both of them were way too salty to eat more than half the plate. I could've ordered a bowl of rice to go with the salad, but I never had to do that in other places. Basically, I drank so much water that night and woke up the next day with swollen eyes and fingers. I attribute my swelling to Baan.. :( If they put less salt, it would be really great!

Clean restaurant with friendly, attentive staff. A group of friends and I shared the pad thai, red curry, crab fried rice, crispy pan fried noodles, and a tomato-based soup that I can't remember the name of at the moment. All were really good! The only reason I give this place four stars is because everything was so cramped.

One of my favorite places in the world to get great food, service and to make more memories! It's my special lil secret I share with my friends when they come to visit. Very flavorful and tasty I just don't have a favorite because everything is so good!

Baan is good Thai food, but not the best in the city. God forbid, I'm going to disagree with the oodles of Yelpers who claim Baan has the best pad thai in the city. It's kinda soggy and mushy in my opinion. But that's just me, I may have been subjected to too much inferior pad thai from my "i heart pad thai" phase... However, I do enjoy their mango curry. Yummy! I got the medium spicy one, and it's pretty darn spicy. It has a good blend of coconut milk and curry spices.

I keep meaning to write about Baan Thai after my visit since I have been there countless times now. I am part Thai and my father is a chef so the expectations when I go to any Thai restaurant are pretty high. It has come to a point now that when i call to tell Ning I am coming over my favorite bottle of wine and my favorite appetizer Flirty Dumplings are there waiting for me. As recently as this past weekend I came in with some friends of mine. They just moved into the neighborhood. One of which has the same high expectations when it comes to food. So much so that once he even went into the kitchen of another restaurant to complain. Well his trip to Baan Thai went much better. He in fact called the duck curry that we ordered THE BEST CURRY HE HAS EVER TASTED. They offer sake and wine flights as well at a reasonable price. For those of you who like it spicy be sure to tell them that when you order. You won't be disappointed. For those that don't want their mouths on fire the dishes are just as delicious minus the heat. Baan Thai is something that all Thai food fans must try. And a few return trips are in order so all the delicious items can be given a chance.

if you intend to order some food for delivery from here, using grub hub don't bother I waited a hour and forty five minutes so far and still waiting . it was promise to be delivered after one hour. I found their food too salty. Their basil fried rice was chock full of basil and vegetables. Portions were hearty, but I couldn't take a bite without chugging water. Their drunken noodles were also full of vegetables and nicely sized, but again... too salty. I hear their dumplings and crab fried rice is delicious, so I plan on coming back again but next time I'll know better and ask for less salt.

Loved their sangria. Loved their spicy eggplant Loved their Pinapple Curry Didnt like the Drunken Noodles at all. There was no spice. It was like the chinese style noodles. Great customer service. Ill come back soon but next time I wont order the Drunken Noodles.

Baan Thai is a great Thai food choice. In a city that has so many options for Thai, it's definitely above par in terms of food and service. My friend and I stopped in on a Friday night. We were greeted and seated right away. Overall, the staff is very friendly and attentive. The waitress quickly took our drink orders (lychee iced tea and thai iced tea...both were good). She then checked in frequently - but not in an obtrusive way - to see if we were ready to order. We decided to split the shrimp tom yum, beef pad see ew, and chicken pumpkin curry. When asked about the spiciness level, the waitress seemed very concerned about cooking it to our preference. Everything was great; the pumpkin was soft rather than hard or crunchy, the pad see ew came in a huge serving, and the tom yum was just spicy enough. Multiple waitresses checked to make sure we were happy with our meal. I also tend to drink a lot of water, and the servers must have refilled my water at least 10 times. This was greatly appreciated. The vibe of the restaurant is very nice. It got packed toward the end of our dinner, and there seemed to be a wide variety of folks, from an older crowd celebrating a birthday, to some UCSF students, to families, to some young 30-somethings on a date. I will be sure to come back!

This is the best thai in the neighborhood. Get the Catfish Cha Cha, a mix of Thai spices, with a hint of sweet. Service is great and atmosphere is nice.

You have got to try the Fried Fish Tsunami! It is sooooo good. I came here with my friend who said this is her favorite Thai restaurant in SF so the bar was set very high. Needless to say I was a little skeptical at first because a) she's vegetarian and I'm not) and b) although I like asian food in general, I am not a huge fan of Thai food. But boy was I wrong. We ordered corn cakes which was delicious (i'm a big fan of anything corn ;). For entrees, we got the fried fish tsunami (which I thought was super yummy) and also the red curry fried rice (very tasty despite all veggie). I myself got the pineapple roast duck w/ curry which was only so-so. I've been to a number of Thai restaurants before (also been to Thailand itself :) and I have to say this was the best Thai food I've had. Bann is my new go to Thai place.

My 1 star is not for flavor , but for looong delivery time, and portion size, was a lil on the small side which was a lil cray cause of the price, but even more so, it arrives cold! Ugh get it together its a Mon nite!?

Fantastic authentic tasting Thai food. Had the curry duck flat noodle. This is not the regular sweetened version of Thai food found in so many, but a balanced and intensely flavoured dish. Happy hour grants 9$ flights of wine also recommended. Beef puffs slightly overcooked and pastry became too hard.

My second favorite Thai place (Osha is my number uno love). I been here several times already and they had never disappointed me. It's a nice, semi-quiet, trendy little place with a huge selection of wine and they recently added wine cocktails to their drink menu. I gotten the White Sangria the last time I went there and it was made perfectly. It had the right amount of sweetness and fruitiness and definitely not watered down like how I had at some places. For appetizer, we had the green curry roti, the roti was nice and crispy and the curry had the right hint of spiciness. For my main dish, I had Chan Pad Pu, which is pretty much like Pad Thai but with crab and can be made spicy. I gotten mines mild. OMG, it was DEEE-licious! The bf gotten the Yellow Curry Chicken and it was absolutely amazing. The service is also great and attentive. All and all, if you're looking for a great local Thai joint, make this place it.

Came here a few times and never left impressed. Yes, it's a fancy Thai restaurant as compared to the likes of King of Thai, but it just doesn't excite me. The last time I came here I ordered the chicken satay for appetizer and it came out cold. Was it supposed to be cold? I didn't really like it nonetheless. After the appetizer, I had the tom yum soup, which was good. For entree, I ordered the basil eggplant and red curry. The basil eggplant with brown rice was ok, as well as the curry. I also had a Yelp coupon and it didn't seem like they knew what to do with it... kinda irritating because it took way too long to leave.

I love me some spicy Thai food & Baan does it up pretty well. If you like hot & spicy in a soup form; getcha some Tom Yum Soup, pick your meat or Tofu, say how spicy, & dig in. Drunken Noodles & Basil Fried Rice are also very yummy. These Thai girls always make fun of me because I am sweating, crying and giggling while eating the Tom Yum Soup. But it is sooo good!

1/9/12 finished review... FANTASTIC!! I stayed at the Family House while my son was getting cancer treatments last year, and we kept going back. We are all "connoisseurs" and frankly this is up there with the best of them!! I live in Roseville and my husband works between here and San Francisco, so when we are in town we always return and it is always the same....FANTASTIC :) I love the "wine-flights" they offer. When I go to San Francisco and want great food I always have this restaurant in my arsenal. Suzanne

So yummy! I've eaten here a couple times with my sister, once for lunch and once for dinner....both times the food was amazing! The prawns in a blanket is a pretty standard appetizer but really tasty. I love the crab fried rice and drunken noodles...and from their lunch menu I had a super flavorful ground chicken dish with basil, peppers and green beans....as well as a chicken dish with garlic and pepper. And let me just say their lunch menu is especially reasonably priced. The service is great, everyone seems friendly, and the place is clean. I will definitely be back to eat in and/or get food to go.

Had the pad thai and lady friend had the chicken curry. Pad thai was awesome. it wasnt over seasoned, it was both sweet and savory. the bean spouts were crunchy. it was presented nicely on top of a giant piece of lettuce. peanuts was served on the side. the beef i had on it was tender. the curry was creamy because it was made with coconut milk. the pieces of chicken breast were whole, not chopped up. when cooked with the curry, the chicken became tender. i do wish they chopped up the potato a bit. from what i saw, the potato was literally just chopped into quarters then dropped into the curry. the curry came with a mixture of brown rices. it was a good compliment to the curry flavors. Atmosphere was nice. there was plenty of mood lighting. the bar was very modern looking if you want alcohol. the place had a very tasteful asian theme too it. not over done.

Terrible. I can't believe I ordered from here again. They said it would be like an hour for delivery and it was more like an hour and a half both times. If that's how long you're going to take, say so up front so Ill know not to order from you.

My gf and I were starving last night and we decided to go to Lavash for dinner. I had not made any reservations and there was a 30min wait so we noticed this Thai restaurant across the street. The decor was super nice and modern and there was no wait, so we sat down for dinner! We ordered the Spicey Beef salad which was excellent! String beans with ground chicken which was good and some other special spicey beef dish (which was excellent)! We killed all of it and we were happy we stumbled across this place! We will definitely be back for dinner again or happy hour!

Tried for the first time via grubhub. Was delighted. Pineapple fried rice was a crowd pleaser. As was the chicken and eggplant dish. Next time will not order the crispy panang curry sticks, too spicy and just not my thing. Angry Prawns were also good, but I am looking forward to trying other dishes.

I was glad to see a new restaurant in this space and tried Baan Thai out recently for lunch. I ordered Pad See Ew. It could have been called Broccoli See Ew and guaranteed, you will see broccoli. The ratio of broccoli to noodles is probably 8:1. Not good. I want LOTS of noodles when I order a noodle dish. Otherwise, the food was okay. No great shakes. Kinda pricey for fairly standard food. Nonetheless, I'll give it another try and order something else next time. Best of luck to Baan Thai.

Came back recently and noticed 3 new specials added to the menu! This time around, I ordered: flirty dumplings (new) 5 spice scallops (new) papaya salad sunset pork appetizer seafood tom yum soup (large) brown rice Totally way too much for 2 people even though I can pack away a lot. Flirty Dumplings - these are pork and shrimp dumplings if I remember correctly. I could only have one or two (i'm allergic to shrimp so sad). They were EXTREMELY FRESH. Don't get it twisted, these are made in house, none of that frozen nonsense. You can definitely tell it's fresh from how tender all the meat is and the sauce is spicy! It resonates all throughout your palette. Baan Thai is definitely a flavor trip for the taste buds. 5 Spice Scallops - the thing that really sells me is the sauce. made from scratch, definitely had a lot of love and thought put into it. i also love the taste of kaffir lime leaves *drool* Scallops themselves were seared and not over cooked at all. Definitely had a milder taste than the flirty dumplings, but that's okay. My tongue was slightly tingly since flirty dumpling sauce is a tad spicy..The kaffir lime made made the scallops seem ever sweeter and toned my palette down a tad. Papaya salad and sunset pork were solid (my faaaaaaaavorites). Seafood tom yum hit the spot since the fog had rolled in again. They definitely do not skimp on the amount of seafood in it! Chock full of shrimps (gave those to Leif), scallop and squid.. I got so full.

Just found my favorite new Thai spot!! The curry is spicy and the wine flows like there is no tomorrow. You can taste a flight of wines for $9 before commiting to a whole bottle. Their presentations are clean, our wait for a table was nothing, the staff was joyful, and ambiance is modern. I can't wait to come back and try some more spicy Thai goodness. Mango Shrimp, was by far the best item of the night. The curry was spicy enough to tingle my tongue and the sweetness of the soft mango and shrimp pulled the dish up to a heavenly place.

This place has good pad kee mao! The lunch specials are quite cheap. I'd go here for take out any time. Not much else to say, it wasn't anything special. I guess the decor was quite nice for the price point and they also serve various wines. Not a bad cheap date night option!

  • Jade R.

TASTY!!!!!! I had the Eggplant dish with chicken. I thought the flavor was really good, and the presentation was beautiful. I was totally into it. I don't like it as much as Marnee Thai, but it definitely is a close second. I would be very happy going to Baan as a substitute for Marnee anyday :D and the lines aren't crazy! :D

  • Tiff C.

This place was decent. The decor was nice and the way they had their wine display was trendy.. but as for the food .. it was A-OK.. Thai food for me... is usually all the same. King of Thai, Osha, Marnee Thai, all taste the same to me. We wanted to be simple.. and since we both realized we always order pad see yew whenever we go out and eat thai food.. we decided to do something else. It was pretty obvious the dishes were meant to be shared family style so we had the Spicy String Beans with ground beef and yellow curry chicken which were both good except the ground beef in the string beans were extremely salty, so they might wanna watch the salt levels there. + two bowls of rice. We got full fast and were satisfied. The service was great, the waiters kept my water filled and the lady that works there was very nice and made sure that we were doing okay.

Boyfriend took me here for date night on Saturday and had a good time. He said it was recommended on the local e-newletter for GQ. Owner is supposedly a ex-bartender, and it comes through. She walks around the place constantly checking on her customers and ensuring their experience. I saw her taking pics of the place with her iPhone -- probably posting the progress of first opening month. They're doing well and I'm happy for them. The place is very small -- so if it becomes popular, i forsee lines. Setting is very cozy but very modern, with back-lit display of liquors/wines for one wall of the restaurant. I'm in love w/ their candles decorations...but I digress... Food is pretty cheap considering the venue, and taste/quality is like that of Osha Thai. We ordered: -Exotic Seafood ($15) - Very tasty. Variety of seafood tossed in a tangy and spicy sauce and sauteed. I'd recommend it. -Salmon Curry (Weekly special - $14) - I suspect this more home-cooking type of dish? The curry was the texture of poached eggs and flavor become old very quickly. Needed more a kick. Portions were huge though. -Thai Ice Coffee -- ($3) - Not too sweet and potent french coffee. YUM. One compaint -- You had to order rice separately at $2/bowl. Not sure who eats curry w/o rice..so its basically a +$2 to all their dishes. All the waitresses there are very sweet and attentive - Service was great. Baan is a great add to inner Sunset -- next time im pissed at the parking situation around all the Osha's in the city, i'll be sure to remember Baan.

At first I was skeptical of a "wine bar" in Inner Sunset. I thought it might turn into one of those restaurants like Ten next door that justifies its higher price and mediocre food by darkening the interior decor and pump up the music a little. Fortunately Baan didn't need to rely on its dark interior and techno music, it actually has good food. Four of us walked in without reservation on a Friday night. It was busy, but not so busy that we couldn't be immediately seated. We ordered tom yum soup, catfish cha cha, drunken noodles, pumpkin curry and angry prawns to share. The service was speedy and efficient. We never had to wait long for a dish to come out. Everything was delicious but if you can't handle spicy food, you might ask them to tone it down, because they definitely don't hold back on the heat. My husband especially liked the catfish cha cha he ordered, which is fortunate because he ordered it based on the name alone. We had no idea what it was going to taste like. But the fish turned out to be tender and juicy and full of great flavors. Price isn't cheap for a Thai restaurant, about $20 per person without drinks after tax and tips and portions aren't huge. But it does provide a nice alternative so you don't have to squeeze yourself into Marnee Thai or one of the less posh Thai restaurants in Inner Sunset. The waitstaff is very, eager to please. We had a good time watching one of the waitresses with a super short skirt putting on a jacket for a customer and straightening his collars for him. Wow, what won't they do for you?

it's the only place that's open on a Monday around inner sunset. beaware of the papaya salad -- it's very spicy, my tongue was on fire after I ate half of the salad. dungeness crab fried rice was excellent. liked the tom yum soup. pretty nice ambience

We had dinner here on Friday night. The restaurant is a bit small, but every table was filled. Wine with Thai food? It must be a plus! We got the the wine flight of reds. I have to say the choice of the red flight was pretty good. Amongst the two of us, we shared the prawns in blanket that was recommended by the server. She said it was one of her favorites. So we chose to start off with that. The prawns in a blanket sounds like and seems like its pigs in the blanket, but its fried, and its almost like a skinny spring roll dipped in sauce. We also had the jungle curry without coconut milk and fire cooked beef with basil and chili sauce. This was the first time I had thai curry without coconut milk. I want to say it was a bit more soupy, instead of it being saucy...gave us the less heavier feeling after eating.

This is not just another Thai restaurant! Hip and trendy set up while also adorned with beautiful art pieces depicting natural Thai landscapes. This place oozes an Osha atmosphere, but it's better tenfold because it serves authentic thai food, meaning a whole lotta spices!! I personally can't take too much spicy food so I was relieved to find out when made mild, the dishes still retained their rich flavors and were thoroughly enjoyable. The Crying Tiger contained generous portions of succulent grilled beef, decorated with cucumbers, red onions, and drizzled with a yummy lime-based dressing over a bed of lettuce. This was a stand-out dish for me! Also loved the Roti appetizer. Naked Shrimp is a must-try for those who can handle some heat as they are raw, tart, SPICY and delicious!! Pleasant and friendly servers, good service, great ambiance, and authentic and affordable (around $10 for most dishes) food. What's not to love?

The food is very tasty and they have good prices for lunch specials and happy hour. - Good happy hour appetizers - $9 flight of wine or $4 for a glass My favorite dishes, so far, would be the naked shrimp and drunken noodles! Oh, can't forget about the flirty dumplings!

Just ate lunch at this place with my friend. Delicious food, friendly service, great ambiance! From the outside, this place already looks fancy. We checked out the menu and the prices were pretty good so we decided to eat here. The inside looks nice, I love the paintings and decorations in this restaurant. Great intimate-feel. Their lunch menu prices are even cheaper (11am- 3pm)! Awesome! Everything on their menu looks so goood. Their selection of curries were interesting. I haven't heard of mango, apple, pineapple, or pumpkin curries before. We started with an appetizer: Tango Taro & Pumpkin ($6). This was my favorite of all dishes I tried! Fried taro and pumpkin served with tamarind sauce mmmmm! Absolutely delicious! They have individual size soups so I decided to get the Tom Kha ($3) which is a spicy coconut milk soup with lemon grass, galangal, Kaffir lime leaves and mushrooms with chicken. Good portion of mushrooms! And the chicken is really good, the only thing I didn't like was that it was a bit too salty for my taste. My friend says hers was just right, but I'm a fan of blander soups. For our lunch entree, I had the Mango Curry which came with choice of pork, chicken, or beef, and brown or white rice ($9) which was interestingly good! The portion was smaller than I expected, it came in the same size bowl as the soup...-.- BUT the taste was delicious...I felt like I was eating a dessert and main dish at the same time. It was sweet, spicy, and savory at the same time! My friend had the Panang Curry ($8) with duck (extra $3). I tasted a spoon of it and it was delicious also. Great place! I would def come back here to try their other dishes again. P.S. I love their dishware!! All white and elegant.

OoOoOo....a new Thai restaurant in the Upper Sunset. We need one of those up here! Love the decor of the place. Very calm and intimate. The wine bar area is awesome...definitely has that modern feel. Ok, time for the food....I only had appetizers and dessert, which was both are fantastic. This is what I had. * Thai Beef Strips (Thai Beef Jerky) * Corn Cakes * Chicken Satay * Vanilla Cheese Cake * Pyramid Choco Mousse The presentation of the food was good. It was a traditional Thai feel that you'd get from any other Thai restaurant. The one thing that caught my eye was the Pyramid Chocolate Mousse...its basically mousse that is shaped as a pyramid. It was so pretty that I didn't want to touch it. :P The owner of the Baan is a very nice lady. One of the most nicests ppl you can ever meet. She made me feel very welcome. I'll def come here again and try out the entrees. Did I mention they have a HUGE wine selection? End result... *Def want to come here again *Def want to try the entrees *Def wanna drink more wine ;-) *PICS TO COME*

The food was good, although I found that surprising given that the menu was SO HUGE that even the waitress had to ask "Do we serve that? I don't remember it" when my friend ordered #89 from the 6th page of items.

Amazing food and good service. I went at baan this evening restaurant decor was nice. I ordered a wine flight ,roti green curry, Drunken noodle beef and pad se ew. All the food test so good . Very good service ! Nice and friendly . We was seating until 10 but it was raining, even they close at 10, but the severe still say don't worried wait until the rain stop first! don't hurry ! Baan Thai House is now a favorite restaurant in the city. My daughter and I have gone to Baan daily for the past week, I kid you not. Every time the service has been outstanding and the food delicious! We have enjoyed everything we have ordered here. Great quality and beautifully presented. We both agree that Heaven on Earth is their dessert--fried bananas and coconut ice cream drizzled with honey! And the prices? I cannot believe how low they are for the quality you get.

It's more expensive than the neighboring Thai restaurants, but it makes up for with with superior atmosphere, service, and food. The Mango Curry is very unique and a MUST order--I am salivating thinking about it.. The drunken noodles are awesome as well. Portions are generous. I live in the neighborhood and always pick this as my first choice in the area for Thai food. Its not five stars only because I am lucky enough to have eaten in Thailand.

I love this place. I first came here about three years on a quest for drunken noodles. This place came up with raves on Yelp. So I went for lunch. What I loved then was that they had a kick ass wine selection (yes at lunch), more creative than usual menu, and really tasteful decor. And it wasn't even a top SF restaurant. I was thinking how most place I had lived (Fairbanks, AK) in particular, this would have been the fanciest place in town, but in SF it was just ordinary. That made it special. Then I got my food. Yummy. I keep going back for the drunken noodles, but I've worked my way through most of the appetizers. Hit after hit after hit. Maybe it's the competition with that more famous Thai place in the Sunset, but Baan Thai always has something cool, new, and tasty. But bring back the Riesling flights!

This is my favorite thai place in the Inner Sunset neighborhood. Generally it is very good, but occasionally have had some "misses." Yesterday when we were there I ordered the Panang curry mild. When it came, it was really spicy. It took a long time for anyone to check on us and good for them, when they did, the server replaced it with a milder version without question. I give them credit for handling a misstep well. Most of the dishes I've ordered have been pleasing to great, the Masaman Beef was really the only item I've had there that I would NEVER order again - it was really boring tasting and the meat wasn't tender.

This is a nice, little Thai in my 'hood. The place is pretty small so did come off feeling a bit cramped. Clean, modern decor gives a nice ambiance, especially for an after work happy hour. I visited this restaurant after work one day, at a pretty late hour, so wasn't very happy. I was starving, yet thought the food was just ok, so couldn't have been that great yea? I ordered the Chan Pad Pu (ie pad thai with king crab on it) which was good. Portions weren't very large for the price they charge. Can't remember what else I ordered so must not have been a very memorable meal.

This is place is one of many good restaurants in the Inner Sunset. The decor is very nice with lots of art work and a light up bar. The food was great but the service is kind of slow. Food: Green Curry Roti- Very good! Good spicy and heat to the curry! Tangy Exotic Seafood- Good seafood in coconut milk Lemongrass beef- Good spicy to it

Walking into the restaurant for the first time...I first noticed that the decor here is really inviting and stylish. I loved the color scheme of the walls/furniture/artwork. The owner was so friendly and welcoming. She visited all of the tables personally, and made sure things were going well. Our server was also great and attentive. My water glass was never left close to empty. My bf ordered the lychee tea, which wasn't sugary sweet - good because I could actually taste the tea and the lychee that way. We ate the basil pork puffs (right amount of kick and good with or without the sauce in the cucumber salad side dish), tom yum soup (good but a little sweeter than I'm used to), garlic and pepper chicken (good), pad thai with chicken (really good flavor and noodles), and the lemongrass beef (good). Another gem on Irving!

If you want overpriced food and obnoxious diners, then this is the place for you. We had dinner there for the first time and definitely, the last time. We ordered what was supposed to be curry "jungle curry", which turned out to be like bad Chinese stir fry. On top of that, the order came out wrong. The waitor was reluctant to correct it, saying the curry is supposed to be like that. However, he took it back and they put the ingredients that were missing. Hence, one star is given. On the other hand, Pad see ew was quite good as well as tom kha soup. Overall, it was an unpleasant dining experience, had the feel of late night lounge with drunks.

It has been a long while since I had some great thai curry, courtesy of Basil Thai. Since then, I have bounced around for a few years due to work, and have not had the chance to try much of anything thai. I rarely have thai food as it is. Now Baan Thai has come along and has awakened my appetite for this tasty dish. The Yellow Curry Chicken at Baan Thai was simply delicious. The flavors and aromas of the curry hit my taste buds right on the mark, rich and abundant. My goal now is to try the rest of their curry, from Mango, to Pumpkin, to Pineapple Roast Duck, and more... A task my belly would certain love! The appetizers like the Flirty Dumpling and Thai Samosa started the night in the right direction. The dumplings were succulent and the samosas were packed full of curry flavor goodness. The Po Tak Soup, a combination of seafood, herbs and spices, was a perfect way to reinvigorate a hungover birthday day boy. As for me, I enjoyed the flavor of the broth and the chunks of salmon, mushrooms, and other fresh ingredients to this dish. The Drunk Noodles and the Catfish Cha Cha were just on par. The former didn't seem too spicy and the later, although had a great green curry paste, faltered on the deep fried catfish fillet. I ended up scooping all the green curry sauce and mixed it into my rice. The ambiance at Baan Thai is very relaxing and the food just borders on great. And as I said before... I'll be back.

Best Pad Thai EVER. Seriously who knew? It's so incredibly scrumptious, I could probably eat it every day. Although then it would just get old. But geez, the sauce, the tofu, the chicken, the green onions, the bean sprouts, big piece of cabbage, orange, lime, of course the noodles....all perfect. The even better part is the fact that it wasn't busy, where some of it's competitors were packed. (and this place was better!) Cheers! It's a little more pricey than other Thai places in the area, but omg it's amazing. Plus it's a cute little restaurant with nice decor.

Nice ambiance and decor, modern look... Good service Tried the Catfish-- tasty, no remnants of that fishy bottom feeder taste, tad pricey for what it is.. Curry was good. cant really go wrong with Thai Curry Pad See-ew. Better than King of Thai haha

The food was amazing and the staff was extremely accommodating. I went with a friend that is a celiac and that could not eat gluten and the staff was aware of the allergy and provided ingredient lists to verify when unsure to guarantee an awesome dinner. It was nice to be sure that she was safe and that she would not get sick off the food for not being gluten free. Definitely a repeat!!

Food is flavorful (spicy, tangy, very Thai of course). Wine selection is okay. They offer flights of 3 wines for $14 and up, which is a good deal because you can do the tasting and pairing of them with the food.

Best Thai food I've had in the city, and on par with the best I had on a recent trip to Thailand. Favorites: the Flirty Dumplings (a special recipe of the rather cute and very friendly owner), Sunset Pork, and mango sticky rice for dessert. Also a surprisingly nice wine list - I know the name implies it should, but it's still refreshing to find a Thai restaurant in which wine is not an afterthought. I've gone back several times and never been disappointed.

This is one of my top Thai restaurants in the City. The service is great, the atmosphere intimate with tasteful and elegant decor (soft and warm lighting) and of course the food is great. One of my favorite dishes is pumpkin curry. I never tire of it. Also, the tiger prawn dish is wonderful. Love the appetizers. I also enjoy that they have a wine bar.

This place is really pretty good. I think it could go toe to toe with Marnee, at least in this neighborhood. I wouldn't quite call it a wine bar...but for Thai food, a yes.

My girlfriends and i wanted to try this place and we did. I did not have a pleasant visit. We tried the roti green curry which was not great. The roti was so oily, and the curry? Tasted nothing like curry. And i'm not sure if it was suppose to taste that way. I got the pad see ew. Very normal, i've been to other, even cheaper thai rest and had better experience than here. My gf got the crab fried rice and it was so bland! No taste at all!! And we shared the tomyum soup, which was prob the best thing they had there. I mostlikely won't come back here!

It's convenient to order take-out online and nice to eat in as well. My go-to orders are the crab fried rice, green curry fried rice, green curry, pad se ew, or tom ka soup.

Baan Thai is a few blocks off of the busy intersection of 9th and Irving. I like the dark ambiance, and what more could you ask for? Flights of wine and a great array of spicy dishes to enjoy. We ordered the red and white wine flights and our server was very informative in letting us know what order to try the wines and what it paired well with. The papaya salad was very spicy and flavorful, I wish the strips were a little thinner. The tom yum soup had a great lemongrass flavor and a great dish to start off with. The pad thai was great as well (I always order mine without bean sprouts). Definitely a great place to try if you're in the area.

I probably didn't even know about this place and even forgot about where it was 6 months after, but what I remember about the restaurant itself: Yes it's good. And plus, it was reasonably priced. With a great vibe for a nice friendly gathering, our party enjoyed a great departing meal here for a friend from out of town. -Angel wings - Wing meat stuffed with noodles and carrots and tender with a pour of panang curry. YUM -Panang was well flavored with maybe a little more paste than I would normally like. -Corn cake - pretty bomb with bits and pieces of corn. however, here's the part where I know they got cheap. They used frozen corn which leaves that chewy type of taste and would have been way better had it been fresh or even canned

The restaurant is basically an upscale Thai restaurant in the Inner Sunset. The decor is sleek and modern and the restaurant is very clean. I was there with a large party and they were very accommodating, especially with one of our guests having a wheelchair. The staff was excellent and very nice and the service was great. What was also a plus was that the waiting staff actually spoke Thai, which you don't see too much nowadays as it is typically Chinese people run these kinds of restaurants. Now onto the food; I ordered the pad thai with salmon. Now I know what you're all thinking (why the heck would you order pad thai with salmon??). I was feeling in a seafood mood and I was curious to see how this would turn out. The dish was pretty delicious and it was very very flavorful. The salmon was well cooked and well marinated and did go together with the pad thai. Comparing the pad thai here to Marnee Thai, I would choose this place over Marnee. The downside is that the dish is quite expensive @ $10 + $3 extra for the salmon. I was looking on the menu and it seems they charge you extra for adding any meat onto the regular dishes which is kind of a sketchy way to incur extra fees (so -1 star for the price). Overall, the service was excellent, the food was great, and the restaurant was clean, sleek, and modernized.

I've had a lot of thai food and this is up there with the best of them taste wise. It's a little pricy, and I would have liked twice the portion of spring roll for the price, but the wine flights are very reasonably priced and paired with 5 star thai food. The food is 5 stars, but paired with the price, it's 4 stars. It was also easy to get a reservation for saturday night, the place was half empty. If they drop prices by even $1-2 on most things I bet this place would get tons of business and more than make up for the price drop.

Came here for lunch today Pros: Good ambiance Prompt waitstaff would be a nice place for a date Yummy curry Cons: Really small portions Their menu still indicates that they serve a salad with their lunch menu, they do not, and that offer ended MONTHS ago. please update your menu! I was also overcharged for my food Conclusion: I do not care to be mislead and under fed

SOOO delicious. The food is amazing and the staff is kind. The flight is a great deal, and excellent. The food is a tad more pricer than some others, (like a $1.50) yet the quality is SOOO much better. HIGHLY recommend. Best Pad Thai, Spring rolls, and Tom Yum I've ever had!

Review is only for Happy Hour which is from 3-6pm everyday! They have a small happy hour menu but everything on it is pretty delicious! They have a few sangria and mimosas available but their crispy rolls, green curry roti, and Thai samosas are pretty darn good for $4 per dish (each came with 3-4 bit sized pieces). They were also really nice and allowed me to order happy hour items to go! The drinks are a little pricey even for happy hour since they are pretty small and super super sweet. 5* for the service as it was also terrific. They take Amex which is a plus!

4.5 Stars I decided to come here with a friend for Matto Day since I had a sudden craving for thai food. I ordered The Pumpkin curry , my friend ordered the pad-thai and we got a appetizer sampler ( thai samosas, fried shrimp, dumplings, corn fritter, and sweet sour spicy sauce. Everything was delicious and I just love love loved the pumpkin curry soooo much!!!!! YUM! Servings are generous and prices are a little high but remember you are also paying for the ambience. The restaurant is beautiful with wonderful art pieces of the four seasons and has great vibe. They also have a full bar. The staff are very nice and helpful. This place is a good place for groups and grabbing a formal lunch or dinner with friends. MMM! I will be coming back here when I go back to San Francisco.

Very good Thai food. I had the Crying Tiger Salad last night, and man it was spicy - and that's from a Dave's Insanity hot sauce fan! And it was delicious, the grilled beef was done just right. The Flirty Dumpling are worth a try also, excellent shrimp/pork/veg dumplings. We've eaten there a few times, and never been dissappointed. The noodle dishes, the papaya salad, it's all very good. We ordered delivery last night, I do not recommend that - it took like 2 hours for our food to arrive, and we only live a few blocks from the restaurant. If you want some good Thai food, give it a try - but go there in person!

You don't normally think Thai and wine, but Baan Thai pulls it off magnificently. The food here was tasty, authentic, and if you want, as spicy as it gets. The wine list is also fun and always changing. They provide generous pours for their tasting flights, and is a great way to try out bottles you might otherwise not think to try. Great food, wine, and the service is friendly and attentive as well.

Parking is tough in the neighborhood as it is just street parking but we lucked out as I was about to give up. The Baan Thai House is nicely decorated and roomier than we expected. We found service to be good. It was about a quarter full when we entered at 7:30 PM on a Friday night. We got our food quickly, and enjoyed everything we had. The kids liked the Pad See Ew a lot. It had fresh wide noodles, broccoli with either chicken, beef or shrimp. I enjoyed the Tangy Exotic Seafood dish with jasmine rice. The wine bar is a nice extra. There are some tasting flights that would go nicely with the Thai food. The food was reasonably priced, which is a relief in the City. I would recommend it.

A lot of times you see a Thai restaurant that has 4 STARS, but you know very well that the place is 3 stars sometimes not even that. Well I can confidently say this is a 4 STAR Thai restaurant. I tend to judge Thai restaurants based on their Pad Kee Mao, because it has a good assortment of things in it, that if combined in the right way can be amazing. Their Pad Kee Mao is called "Dragon Noodles" on their menu. I have to say they do a good job on the flavor, noodles, and overall combination of ingredients. The noodles are chewy. The flavor of the dish is complete and not missing anything. I would come back again for this dish. Their Shredded Pork with a lime/fish sauce is good as well. They cook the pork on the grill and serve it up with this really good dipping sauce. Not a bad choice for an appetizer. It taste just like the description. Simple, but good. As for their "Creme Brulee", more like an espresso moose with brown sugar crystals on top...it was not that great. It would be okay if they did not add the sugar topping. It's like when you try too hard to make something good and you ruin it. I would stay away from ordering it.

Pros: I really like their crab fried rice (fresh dungeness crab; not greasy; simply delicious) and their 'Tango Taro and Pumpkin' appetiser (fried taro root and pumpkin). Really, really good stuff, and great service to boot. Cons: EXPENSIVE. Their crab fried rice is $14, when other Thai restaurants offer it for about $10. Their crab is higher quality than most other Thai places I've been to, so I'll give them that, but it's still expensive. *sadface*

The roti green curry is a must get! The bread is so flaky and crispy - wonderful with the creamy and spicy curry sauce! I tried their tom kha soup and panang curry with duck as well. I'm not a fan of coconut milk so the soup wasn't great for me, but reminded me of clam chowder. The curry was pretty flavorful, with tender pieces of duck even though I don't prefer duck in curries. I would like to try their other dishes sometime! They also have a funny description for their drunken noodles - "no ID required"

I really don't know why this place has so many good reviews. I want it to be good. I do. I live so close and it would be so convenient. To be fair, I have always gotten take out. But judging by the service going on while I've stopped in to pick up food, it doesn't look like I'm missing anything. The first couple times, the food was decent. The Tom Ka is one of the best I've had. However, recently the food has been inconsistent and they have forget something or gotten my order wrong almost every time. I got the Angel Wings in panang curry. The curry was thin and watery with way too much lemon grass. It is $14 for two wings that were undercooked and had no crunch. They were disgusting, soggy wings. I was tempted to go ask for my money back. This place is way to overpriced, service is not great and food is small portions and not good quality. You will have better luck at Marnee Thai...sorry Baan.

I cannot love Baan Thai any more than I already do. Don't get me wrong, there are many amazing thai places in SF, especially in the inner sunset, but for some reason I always go back here. I love the atmosphere, as it is a bit classier than a traditional thai place. The food is amazing, and there's the added plus of Baan Thai also being a wine bar. Amazing, decently priced thai food, with sangria and/or a wine flight to boot? Can't get any better.

Yelp reviews let me down this time. This was a bad meal in all respects. Let's start with bad service: the waiter took about 25 to 30 mins to come to our table to take our order after being seated. Considering this is a wine bar, their wine selection was not the best and 2 out of the 3 wines in the flight that we ordered were mediocre. The food was average tasting served in silly fancy presentation. The drunken noodles were neither spicy nor "drunken", the yellow curry had a good spice to it but lacked quality in ingredients (there were whole piece of chicken fat in there!) and the rice was very mushy. Really, you can't even cook rice properly? The atmosphere is wannabe-loungy with fake candles on each table and uninteresting Asian art on the walls. No, I will not be going back.

A creative, contemporary take on Thai. The portions are on the small side, but the reason to come here is their focus on wine. The interior is classy and comfortable -- would make a romantic spot. THEY DO HAPPY HOUR from 4-6 PM. Yahoo, we could always use more of these around.

We went to Baan Thai tonight and just adored it. First of all, a flight of 3 3oz champagne for 12 bucks. I will definitely go back for that. The Catfish Cha Cha was AMAZING. Get it spicy. It tasted like Thailand....I felt the island breeze. ah! We also tried the prawn appetizer which had a good flavor. The beef massuman curry was ok but was a tad too sweet for my taste. I cant wait to go back to try more of the menu. The owner, Ning is sweet and super friendly and the rest of the staff are nice and professional. Good ambiance, good food and good service....GO

There's an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation that I love called "The Best of Both Worlds" where Captain Picard is captured and turned into a Borg. For the remainder of the two-parter, he and the crew proceed to find out what life and society is like within the Borg race. Frankly, there wasn't much that was "the best" about being a Borg, but a Thai food restaurant AND a wine bar? Now that IS the best of both worlds! It's difficult for me to get my Nob Hill and SoMa friends to come visit me in Sunset, except when I tempt them with all the delicious restaurants in the area like San Tung, Izakaya Sozai, and Park Chow. They gladly trek out here on the N train to join me for dinner and gush over delicious and decently affordable food. Baan Thai House is my new "bait". Almost everyone who comes here gets a flight (that's 3 decent-sized glasses) of wine for a mere $12-16. Yes, I'm talking about the price of the whole flight, not for one glass! They change the wine flight menu every 2 weeks, which is great, because it means I won't be deterred to go again by a stagnant wine list. They have a wide selection of whites and reds (lots of full, fruity, spicy reds!) that go well with Thai food! But if flights aren't your thing, you can order a taster for only $3 or a full glass for $10. What to order with your flight of wine? Go with the Lemongrass Beef and the Stuffed Chicken Wings Prararm! I know I'll be ordering these for my friends when they come to visit me in the Sunset! Now if only the crew of the Star Trek Enterprise had a Thai restaurant and a wine bar on their ship, they could make an episode called "The Best of All Worlds"! (Cheeesy, I know, but I had to make this review come full circle somehow...) =p

WOW! I came here yesterday for happy hour with a few people and got a few glasses of red wine, all of the appetizers they had cheap for happy hour, spicy scallops, drunk noodles, and the espresso creme brulee. EVERYTHING we had was delicious. We had a 3 or 4 different wines and we loved all of them. The wait staff was right on top of their game, always refilling my water glass before it was empty and asking if we wanted anything else as soon as a plate or glass of wine was empty. Friendly, Good Service and Amazing Food....Can't wait to come back!!

Seriously, drop whatever you're doing and go here now. This place is AWESOME. The food is soo good. Everything we tried was delicious - the tom kha soup, the crispy rolls, the pumpkin curry, the garlic and pepper beef. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Even the salad! It came with a dressing that was so good it compelled me to ask the server what was in it. I was also compelled to ask if they would give me a gallon of it, because I think I'd drink it with a straw. Moving on... The service--absolutely great. Ambiance--perfectly serene. You go for lunch and end up wanting to stay all day. I cannot wait to go back!

How on earth did this place end up with four and a half stars? Granted, the decor is nice. This is a good place to enjoy a flight of wines. The service is *lovely*. The menu sounds enticing. But the food that actually arrives is mediocre. This is primarily due to the poor quality of the ingredients. The "grilled salmon salad" resembled something from TGIFridays. The fish (although perfectly cooked) looked as though it was purchased frozen and in bulk from a restaurant supply store. The "bed of lettuce" was leaves of Iceberg decorated with grated carrot and halved cherry tomatoes. My side of steamed broccoli was not the bright, vibrant green I'm used to seeing at restaurants that boast "fresh, local ingredients" on their menu (as this one does) but the anemic green-and-white factory-farmed variety on sale for $1.69 a pound at the local supermarket. It was the kind of meal I expected to find at a cheap chain restaurant in the suburbs, not at the hip, urban eatery this venue is purporting to be. It's not that the food was *bad* or even poorly prepared (everything was cooked to the degree of doneness that it should have been). It's just that everything else in the restaurant is SO NICE and the food is SO MEDIOCRE, I kept force-feeding my dining companion to confirm I wasn't hallucinating. As I mentioned before, the service is lovely, and so was the wine flight we ordered. This is a great place to come for a glass of wine and some atmosphere. But dinner? No way. I'm halfway thinking they should just drop the idea of being a restaurant and instead focus on being a beautiful place where people fuss over you and you can drink civilized. Because they do that very well. I feel bad writing this because the people are so nice, but seriously, I was so unhappy with my experience that (despite being seriously broke nowadays) we went straight out and bought another dinner. I think I've had to do that before *once*.

This is a wine bar with a twist. The twist is that the staff don't actually know anything about the wine they serve. When asked to recommend a dry earthy red, the waiter just ignored the requirements and suggested his favorite. Um, excuse me? This wine bar also offers free refreshing cold water showers. You see, part way through the meal a waiter dropped a giant bucket of water that splashed all over me and my coat, which was luckily draped over my seat back and partially shielded me. You'd think there would be a free glass of wine coming, right? Nope. The staff offered nothing except a napkin to dry myself off. Well, at least the food should be good, right? Wrong. Extremely mediocre. Do yourself a favor and head over to Marnee Thai instead.

Thought we would give Baan a try. We ordered online for delivery. Thai Fried Rice seemed old, had a taste of something curry going on, massaman curry was too spicy and the meat was dry. How you can overcook a braised meat dish is beyond me. I felt as if the food is pre made, refrigerated and re-heated. The fried pork puffs were a joke, tiny, about the size of a 1" triangle, too spicy also, and the curry roti was also tiny, a few mini cut triangles of dry roti and a small side of green curry. The food was so disappointing. It's awful throwing money away good money, total was around $50. I called to speak to the manager and the girl just gave me a generic response, "we have a lot of regular customers who never complain, "oh so sorry". They must be customers with no taste buds. Sorry, we won't be back.

The first bite of Pad See Eww took me back to Thailand and I was suddenly transported back to my old neighborhood waiting for the street vendor to finish making my noodles. The feeling of such comfort! The other things we ordered were terrific as well. They had a special that night - seared scallops with spicy curry sauce - very very flavorful and was SPICY. We ordered sticky rice with mangoes but they ran out; instead we got to try their signature espresso creme brulee. It was delicious as well. Wow, now I want some more. Next time I will try some of the wine flights they have featured. I was too excited to drink wine and risk not remembering what the food tastes like. Can't wait to go back! Service was good as well. The waitress/hostess was very attentive. Thumbs up.

Ambiance is really hip, modern, and comfortable. Our waiter was really sweet, informative, and attentive. Our wine was light and tasty and complimented our food nicely. We had the lemongrass beef which was really tasty. It has a good amount of sauce on it, so if you're not into that you might want to ask for light sauce. We also had the crispy chicken salad which was also saucy, and not really what I would call a salad, but it was very good. It had a nice balance of cashews, cilantro, chicken, onions, and sauce- just not a whole lot of "salad" ie- lettuce. The scallops appetizer was a bit too spicy, but our waiter brought us a glass of Thai iced tea to help with the heat. Everything was full of fabulous flavors and spices, including the brown rice-it was some of the best around town.

Amazing flavors, great service and great experience! We ordered delivery from their website to UCSF Hospital while our son was here. One small problem we had was we ordered online and after an hour I called to see the status and they has only *just then* received the fax. I'd call to ensure your online delivery went through or skip online.... To make up for the delay they gave us a free desert! Awesome! The food was amazing, The Pad Thai and the Pad Se Ew were excellent. The shrimp in the Pad Thai were big and there was a generous portion of them. We also got the Tom Yum and it was the best I've ever had. The amount of lemongrass they put in is perfect. The contrasting citrus really cuts the cream/heaviness of the soup and makes an excellent taste. The chicken and mushrooms were generous also. We'll be eating here again for sure.

First off, I can't add much to this Susy's very complete review from the same visit. bit.ly/cfw6hW I will say, I love this space. It doesn't get all that loud. You can still make out the faint up tempo clubby tunes that they play. The staff is highly professional and courteous. I was blown away by the quality of the service and the food. I didn't expect such a gem in the sunset. One tip, get a dish that you can use to cleanse your palate between plates. Even if it's just steamed rice. I'm thinking this would make a nice, affordable date spot. I'm definitely coming back soon.

I was with fellow Yelper Eli B. for that trip that mentions the free cold water shower and the staff knowing nothing about wine. I will confirm. This place calls itself a wine bar, but the staff knew nothing about the wines! When I asked for a dry, earthy red, the guy suggested his "favorite," a zinfandel. You think that was dry and earthy? (No, it wasn't, and he didn't know his wines.) When I asked another staffer she told me she only knew whites and not reds. Please don't have servers serving at a wine bar who know nothing about wines!! We ate very, very forgettable food. Was it bad? No. Parts were even good. We had some kind of coconut-free curry that was tasty, plus a very average salmon in red curry, plus a subpar roti. The roti/bread itself was bad, but the dipping sauce was delicious. Overall still the worst roti I've had. But the worst part was the terrible, unknowledgeable service made worse by the server dropping a pitcher of water, showering our entire table with it, and not offering an apology or a single comp of anything. I definitely won't be back. There's better wine and better Thai food in abundance. Also the decor/atmosphere here was nothing. Generic-modern with mostly techno music playing too loud.

Baan Thai is superb! I'd been to this restaurant back when it was an outdated Vietnamese restaurant who provided not only food but the occasional entertainment (and awkward moments) when the owners would fight amongst their customers. Although it made for a good story, I can't remember anything about their food. BAAN brings a facelift to this beautiful space and provides a perfect marriage of authentic Thai and impeccable presentation. Their decor is fresh, modern, chic and comfortable. I loved the low lighting and modern candle votives on the tables. I even noticed the glass tile details behind the back-lit wine bar, off set with some beautiful paint tones on the walls. I took some of my favorite dishes to go so I didn't actually do the full service dining experience but, the staff was more than willing to add some extra fresh green seranno peppers to spice up my Basil Chicken at no extra cost. And, I was pleased to see a nice portion when I opened up my to-go containers. The basil, onion and red pepper flavors were authentic and savory, and they provided plenty of sauce with the dish. I can't wait to go back and try some of their wines next time!

This has become one of my favorite Thai spots in the city! The first few times I had their food delivered, it came so quickly I wondered when they had time to make it. The delivery guy seemed to have literally run a mile over to where I live. Since then I've dined in, too. Service is always very quick. The food is some of the most authentic-tasting I've had outside of Thailand, particularly the Pad Thai. The Thai iced coffee is a treat! The only reason I'm knocking one star off is that a lot of their food seems to mess with me (and my friends) the next day, and last time I ordered a curry it seemed to be drowning in oil. I'll probably stick with the rice and noodle dishes and soups now.

Preliminary four stars based on a first time dinner visit. Baan is a promising addition to the Inner Sunset restaurant scene. Baan took over the space occupied by the always empty Minh Trih Vietnamese restaurant. There are hints of the Osha Thai restaurant chain here (the focus on wine, design-y/sleek interior and curry fried rice.) However, I'd take an Osha imitation over a King of Thai noodle house any day. Meat entrees are in the $10 range with seafood items costing $2-4 more. I had a small order of the Tom Ka soup with pork ($4) and a red curry fried rice with chicken ($10). I washed all that down with a complimentary glass of champagne (special promotion on Mondays going on right now) and the cheapest glass of Sauvignon Blanc on the wine list. Soup was one of the better executions of Tom Ka I've had in a while; they didn't skimp on the coconut milk. The red curry fried rice was excellent overall. It had the equivalent of Chinese "wok hay" and the chicken breast meat was very tender. I had my entree prepared medium, and it still had some great heat to it. My nose was runny after the 3rd or 4th spoon of rice. I can't wait to give this place another try. The location is very convenient with N Judah trains running by the front. I recommend giving this place a try. While Baan does deliver, I say your first meal should be dine in.

The food was just alright, nice atmosphere and cute lil place, but they were not very accomodating when we asked for vegetarian curry. My brother and I are both vegetarian, and we asked for the yellow curry to be made vegetarian and they said they can't do that. So I thought that was extremely odd and SUPER LAME. I ended up getting the string beans with tofu, which was just fine.

I grew up in the area and I've been lucky enough to work here too. In eight of the last ten years I've worked out here, I've eaten out in this area pretty much every work day. To say that I've grown tired of the selection at 9th Ave and Irving is a bit of an understatement. When I heard there was another Thai restaurant coming, I sorta rolled my eyes and thought .. we don't really another here. (What we really need is Korean, Hahn's doesn't cut it) I was wrong though. Despite the longer walk, there is no longer a reason for me to go to Marnee Thai (more expensive, not enough seats) and the other one that took over for Sukothai well, there was never a reason to go there. My test for any Thai place is the Eggplant with Pork over Rice -- I can't think of any other place that successfully makes it spicy while not comprimising the flavor of the dish. It works great here. Their roti is especially good. Definitely better than any other place I can remember. I've gone a few times for lunch now, and the service has always been excellent. My glass of water is never more than half empty. I honestly can't think of a single complaint; and I'm very picky. Well, maybe they asked how the food was a few too many times. The answer never changed, it was always delicious. This place made it on my lunch group's weekly rotation. That's difficult to do.

I'm hoping this is the beginning of awesome restaurants making their way to the Inner Sunset. It's much needed. When Baan opened, I first thought, "Another Thai restaurant???" BUT, this one is far above the rest. For one, it's owners and employees are fairly young so they know how to attract the young, hip crowd (such as myself! ha!). They play good tunes. When my husband and I dined there they were playing Royksopp. The lighting is somewhat dim, and the artwork isn't bad so all together a great mood is created. The owner came to us and explained their menu, her favorite dishes and how they cook their food to the most authenticity. While we waiting for our food, we saw her making her way around the restaurant chatting up the other diners. Brilliant. We sat next to an older couple that had spent a year traveling Thailand and couldn't stop boasting about how perfect the food was. That's got to say something. So the food...DELICIOUS. Definitely beats Marnee Thai, Little Bangkok and Soi Gow (that are all within a block from this place). Perfect amount of spice, flavor...can't wait to go again!

It's okay. The meat quality wasn't great and the food was a bit bland. Service and atmosphere are good though. More of a wine bar than Thai restaurant. I can see it being a nice happy-hour place.

Hip ambiance! Nice wine selection! Try a bunch with their "taste" sizes.... Very good chicken larb and scallops. The pad thai was pretty good and standard. My sister and our girlfriends ordered the pumpkin curry and the red curry. Yum! Nice customer service too. I hear their happy hour is good :) I will come again.

The waiters was friendly but they weren't able to handle a full restaurant. It was ok when we walked in when it was 1/2 full but once it got packed, the service was bad. They forget to serve the soup before the entrees came and we had to remind them. The waiter didn't really apologize either and the "excuse" was the roll of the eyes about the kitchen screwing up. When they brought us the entree, they didn't bring the rice and we had to ask a couple times. They didn't bring it out til after 3 dishes arrived. The problem is that they had 2 waiters on a busy night. They really need to increase the staff.... Good dishes: - Samosa: Fried well, stuffing inside was good and sauce was good - Drunken noodle: Stir fried really well and not oily - Yellow chicken curry: Liked the creaminess of the curry and the taste Average dishes - Fried tofu and taro: The taro was good but the tofu was rather bland. - Catfish da da: The fish didn't taste too fresh and a bit salty Not so good dishes: - Tom yum soup: It was way too salty - Jungle curry (The waiter let us know there was no coconut milk in it when we ordered and we thought, what the heck, we'll try it anyways. It came out to be veggies with pork it this huge amount of broth that several of us thought it was soup. Seriously, just put that item under Chef's special or somewhere else, but this is not curry.) Like the concept of having a good selection of wine and wine flights, but a bit perplexed on the large selection of reds since I personally don't think the saltiness and spiciness of Thai food goes well with red wine. We've had better Thai food and wouldn't go back again. The decor is nice and it's nice to see that they're attempting to provide a nice Thai dining experience without charging an arm an a leg.

Baan Thai is SO Yummy! I ordered here way too much since the restaurant is right down the street. My favorites were the chicken Satay, Peppercorn Salmon, and Pad Thai - also with Salmon. It got pricey, ordering out every single day of my life. The Salmon dishes are pricey but so worth it as they are coked perfectly! I have never actually been to the restaurant but their delivery guy was always very kind. There were two weeks where i ate Pad Thai everyday. It was kind of embarrassing but I went through this insane phase and I only wanted it from Baan Thai. After gaining a few too many lbs, I decided to cut down for a while. Can't wait for the day I reunite with my Pad Thai from this place.

Drunken noodles are my fave here. We always try and go early to beat the crowd (not that we have ever seen one.) Muni N-Judah drops of right outside, so no need to drive here. The staff is attentive and good. I don't think I have seen the same person twice though. HUGE wine selection with tasting flights available. And the flights are arranged so you can get an 'African' selection and other regionals.

Baan thai is a solid choice for Thai food. The prices were reasonable and the food was good and came quickly. Staff were attentive and friendly. All in all, excellent experience.

this is a difficult review for me to write because i honestly LOVE the interior/concept of the restaurant but i am MEH about the quality of the food. so ill start off with the good just because i REALLY wanted to like this place. Wine bar and Thai food? AWESOME!! we walked in and it was literally like you were walking into a new place and time. wonderful ambiance, great table arrangement, very cool bar tasting area in the back. i instantly thought this was a wonderful addition to the restaurants in the area. despite my 2 stars, i would definitely consider coming back ONLY for the wine tasting and various flights that they offer on their menu. then comes the food... not very good. the flavors were just not there. the noodles were very soft/almost overcooked, the veggies were the same. the fried appetizer spring rolls were NOT tasty. it was just veggies wrapped in an only half fried outer skin and NO TASTE. I was drenching the eggroll into the sauce just so I could taste something! the sauces were bland besides the spiciness. butttttt...i will say that if you want spicy, you will get spicy! the food was expensive and the portions were small. for the 2 of us we left paying $48 including tip (only food items, no alcohol/wine). i think i was so enchanted by the ambiance/interior of the restaurant that i expected my taste buds to react the same way. sigh sigh...

The atmosphere and service is really good here. I usually get the Pad Thai and Pad See Ewe. They changed the menu a bit...entree use to come with a small salad but now they no longer have it....maybe they still serve it for dinner. PAD THAI (Noodles) Sauteed rice noodles with egg, tofu, bean sprouts & crushed peanuts. PAD SEE-EWE (Noodles) Sauteed wide rice noodles with egg, broccoli, carrot, and mushrooms.

I am sad to say I just learned about this gem 2 days before I am moving. and lucky because I would have spent way to much money here. Great wine selections, relaxed/hip atmosphere and exceptional flavors. I think the ideal way to get an introduction to Baan Thai is grab a flight and a couple apps. I guarantee you wont be disappointed. If you are looking to stay on the healthy side stay away from Roti Green Curry as they felt very fried. My favorite Thai dish is Tom Kha and this place is #1 on my list so far. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes and to get Tom Kha but this time a large :)

3.5 better ambiance than average (thus some higher prices). easy menu to decipher had Chan Pad Pu -- pad thai like rice noodles, stir-fried with crab meat, egg and king crab meat on top in home made chili garlic sauce. sampled mango sticky rice dessert, rice dry but otherwise done well with the coconut milk and toasted nut try the new location of Lers Ros In Hayes since the ambiance there is better too but you still get the range of exquisite dishes

Get the pumpkin curry over brown rice. It will make your day, I guarantee it. Their brown rice is actually purple in color -- it melts in your mouth and is so flavorful that it could stand alone as its own entree. Also, BEST fried rice I have EVER had....they make everything to order, so if you don't like tomatoes in your fried rice or whatever, just let them know! Service is courteous and polite to the point of almost being white glove formal. Ambiance is neighborhoody, but bumped up a notch with spare, hipster decor and a little wine bar in the back. We love this place!!

Best Pad Thai I've had so far. Great friendly service, the appetizers are excellent and they have a great wine selection with wine flights. I would defiantly recommend this place to anyone looking for great Thai food. Its a small cozy place, good for one on one dinner or possibly a date.

I live in the Hood so I'm always suspicious when a little hole-n-the-wall restaurant closes and in its place is a larger one with any sort of neon lighting. Good for me: Baan is a great place. I've eaten there three times - twice for lunch and once dinner - and the food was delicious each time. I'm not a pretentious 'foodie' so I don't fake comprehending what dishes named after 'crying tigers' or 'naked shrimps' actually means. I just like to eat. I know meat is murder - tasty, tasty murder - but I go for the beef dishes. All are tongue twisting yum. My lunch date ordered some spicy dishes and after watching her turn six shades of purple and drink five gallons of water I'm guessing its safe to say when they say spicy....they mean it. In addition its also a wine bar so you can get loaded. Don't sit facing the bar..the lighted bottles will lure you into a stupor.

I have been avoiding this place because some friends said that it was really bad. Coming from Berkeley, the land of Thai food, I am super picky about thai restaurants so I took the recommendation to ditch it for Marnee Thai. Little did I know that they generally don't like thai food. Don't ask me why they would go out to eat thai... SO, because I had super low expectations, the place actually surprised me! When we walked in for lunch it was totally empty, which is usually a bad restaurant omen, but it meant that our food came out very quickly. We had the Drunken Noodles, and this Mango Curry that I haven't seen in other places. Both we had with tofu, which didn't have the best flavor, so if you eat meat, I would suggest that. They did have the three hot sauces- indication of a authentic thai restaurant. Both were SO good... were literally licked the plate clean. We were also very hungry. I haven't tried to wines, but I think it would be a great place for a date.

very good!! The Tom Kha soup is one of the best I've had and I'm a big Tom Kha critic. :) Also, I had the Lychee Mimosa....BOMB!! It's not expensive, about $10-$14/plate for dinner. The atmosphere was chic. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I was attending a meeting a few weeks ago where I only had 25 minutes to eat and many of the other restaurants on the street were closed on Sunday night. I popped into Baan, even though I was nervous that a full-service restaurant might not be able to accommodate my tight timeline. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted and seated quickly with a menu and drink order. One downside I must mention is that there is some uneven stone tile bordering the tables in the front that I tripped on - they need to fix that immediately. My server brought my drink quickly, took my order and I received it in less than 10 minutes. Didn't even have to tell them that I was in a rush because they were so attentive, without being obtrusive, and had my food perfectly cooked and out to me quickly despite an almost-full restaurant. I ordered the red curry with shrimp and a side of brown rice as that's usually my go-to order in any Thai restaurant the first time I try it. The serving of brown rice is really enough for two people and there was an extremely generous serving of shrimp with the dish - larger than I have seen at any other Thai restaurant I have been to. I wasn't able to finish it and regretted the fact that I wouldn't be home for quite some time so taking the remaining curry wasn't an option. Baan has great date lighting, a low noise level at almost full capacity, music at a low enough level that it isn't annoying and you can still easily have a conversation with your tablemates without effort and an extremely large and diverse wine selection. It should be noted that while I didn't order wine, I noticed that the glasses that the table next to me ordered were larger than usual glasses and portions and the prices were very reasonable. The restaurant could work well for a small group. I plan on trying to organize an event there soon.

I love the simplicity of this restaurant. They have a good wine selection, 4 different flights (bubbles is my fav), and they change it monthly. I love the roti with green curry dipping sauce, all the curries are currylicious, and the sunset pork is sooo tender!

Positives Crispy Papaya Salad (its a little sour, a little sweet, a little healthy, a little deep fried) Bathroom was really clean and smelled wonderful ! Friendly, attentive service Spicy Eggplant was delicious ************** Negatives Service was kind of slow. They could have used 1 or 2 more waiters. Corn Cake was just ok.

I went for lunch, and my girlfriend and I were 2/3 of the people. The service was therefore great! The food was great too. The plates were full, and the food was really tasty and unique. We had Chicken Satay, Papaya Salad, and Mango Curry. Each dish was delicious. The price was just about right, about $8 per plate. And there was plenty of food. I mean c'mon, a sandwich is $8, and to me this was way more exciting. My only annoyance was the loud ass house music bumping at 12 pm. I'm not trying to get drunk and party, so maybe something a bit toned down. We'll definitely be back!

Maybe we didn't order well...but I wasn't as impressed by this place as other yelpers. The wine flights were great though, that was a nice addition. I give the wine 4 stars. They have a very good selection, and pair flights in interesting ways. I would come back just for the wine flight part of the meal. The food was good, and definitely had a lot of flavor. But it wasn't "blow my dress up" amazing thai. I would have been more impressed if they had a few more adventurous dishes. The selection looked like every other thai menu. For this neighborhood though, this place is a welcome addition. I will definitely come back!

a sweet little spot. modern, clean and open. cool concept.... wine flights for ~$13-16 paired with spicy thai food. the dishes are perfect portions and the pours are a plenty. waitstaff is friendly and accommodating. they have some special happy hour action, a diverse wine selection and specials on the menu that change frequently. *add to the list of little SF gems*

Decent pricing for good, solid thai food. I'm a huge fan of the apps, the lychee iced tea, & the crab noodles (chan pad pu). The service is great & the ambiance is perfect for a date spot! Def a great choice & they have fun wine flights to go with your meal!

Actually 3.5 if I could. So we ordered delivery from here as we live close-ish to the place. I ordered online and asked for a dish with chicken wrapped in banana leave.. we got a call saying they didnt have that dish which sucked.. I changed my order to chicken with basil, which i remember telling her to make it with ground chicken and to make both our dishes spicy (hubby got the green curry fried rice). Delivery was pretty quick. When we got our dishes, my chicken was chunky slices while hubby's fried rice, although tasted good, didn't have any signs of a curry sauce or the green curry flavor even :( Moreover, neither of our dishes were remotely spicy. The portion sizes too I thought were a tad bit smaller than what i'm generally used to. However, the flavors were all in there and both dishes were yummy for what they were. Def will be trying them again, hope for a better experience :)

This restaurant was amazing. I loved the atmosphere and decor. The service was friendly and prompt. The waiters were very attentive. We ordered the chicken hot and sour soup, which was spicy and delicious. I also had a thai ice tea which was the best I have ever had. The two main courses we had were also very good. I think my favorite was the yellow curry. I would definitely recommend this place!

I'm amazed that there is ANOTHER Thai restaurant in the Inner Sunset. We seem to have a plethora of Thai, Indian, and Mexican places and an absence of other cuisines (e.g., Italian, French, South American, etc.). Anyway, Baan Thai Cuisine is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. They advertise themselves as a Thai restaurant and a wine bar. I think their food is solid. I ordered the spicy basil ground chicken, penang curry with pork, and pad thai with chicken. I thought the pad thai and spicy basil chicken were both extremely good--on a similar level to Manora's which is my Thai benchmark in SF. The penang curry was not that flavorful, but then again, it was probably healthier than other versions that I found yummier. The ambience may remind you of Osha Thai--lots of black marble/granite with hip, modern music. Again, it's a welcome addition to the highly utilitarian restaurants in the Inner Sunset. The one area that is quite a weakness is the wine. after a semi-lengthy conversation with the owner (Ning, who is a wonderfully warm and friendly person), let me just say that I think their pricing and selection leave something to be desired. For me, they have too many low-end wines that they have excessively marked up (i.e., 3-4 times retail, which I think is exorbitant). Well, they've been open 2 days now, so I'm hoping this will get worked out. Again, food seems to be solid (only eaten one meal there so far) and environment is also really nice.

I thought Baan was 'ok' but it was not a place I'd make a special trip to get back to. I followed the advice of several Yelpers and hooked up the pumpkin curry--it was relatively inexpensive, but not spectacular. Service was friendly, my wife really enjoyed the wine flight (this is where they make the money, right? That must be why the food seemed inexpensive given the nice interior of the establishment) and nothing much to complain about.

This place deserves 5 stars all the way. . . I walked in at about 10:40 and was literally served with my delicious food by 10:45. I am not a fan of walking in late to places but I do anyways , I knew they were closing soon but I was craving Thai and they were right there ... I had drunken noodles with basils, mushrooms, bell peppers, jalapenos, and shrimp. It was DELICIOUS .They were attentive and nice and kept my water full the whole time...

Do not order Delivery from this restaurant. I put in my order through their website, and 1 hour and 22 minutes later the delivery still hadn't come. I called up the restaurant, and the person on the phone just kept saying "we didn't get it." She didn't offer anything to remedy the situation. I had to tell her that they need to get the website fixed, and her reply was that the website is through a 3rd party so it's out of her hands. Still she didn't offer anything to remedy the situation that we had been waiting for nearly an hour and half, and we were all starving! Not even a simple solution like, let me take your order over the phone now. We ended up having to find another place to order online and starved another hour to wait for their delivery!!

We ordered the catfish and chicken red curry... the dishes were a little too salty but still pretty good. To tell you the truth my expectations were'nt that high when I came to this place but the food actually wasn't that bad. The prices are fair... what I didn't like was that they gave you this little dinky portion of rice and charged us $2 per person for a extra helping... The presentations were really nice, especially the rice, but I don't really care if you make my rice shaped like a heart, the portion of rice was smaller than the palm of my hand...

Definitely the best Thai food available for delivery for my neighborhood IMO. I have been searching for a long time for really good Thai places in my zip code that have delivery available. I have ordered from other Thai places and their service and food was.....ok; not bad, but also not something to email home about. I was convinced to try this place after reading a yelp review stating this restaurant is pricey and marketing to the yuppie crowd....my cup of tea! You had me at yuppie. It's not pricey considering what you get. I do have to admit the yellow curry was slightly bland as other yelpers had stated, but it wasn't bad. The Thai samosas' were really good, as was the spicy Thai basil chicken. The delivery was fast. It was delivered within twenty-five minutes. Not bad.

I went here around 8:45 PM on a Wednesday night with my significant other. As others have mentioned the decor is cool and hip. And the service was excellent. The food came fast and furious (in a good way as we were hungry). Plus, my water glass was never empty. Ok so for the food... --My favorite part of the meal were the dumplings appetizers that was one of the daily specials. Moist and tastey! --We also ordered the Roti Green Curry. The roti were crispy and creamy green curry was a nice dipping sauce. I must admit that the green curry was mildly too salty on this occasion. --Pumpkin Curry with Duck. I loved the various kinds of pumpkins in the curry. The portion of duck in the curry could have been a bit bigger. Overall a good dish. I gave this place 4 stars mostly for the service and decor. The food was about 3.5 stars. I would come here again but this wouldn't be a destination Thai restaurant for me. But it's worth a try especially if you live in the neighborhood or are at UCSF for any reason.

Great lunch spot. I'm a fan of their curries, and the $3 tom kha is spot-on. I sometimes run in just for the soup on particularly dreary Inner Sunset work days. I'm looking forward to hitting it up for happy hour. The atmosphere seems best for evening.

    * great service (verging on hovering, but we were one of three tables) * great taste * smart about vegetarian options * clean * wonderful ambiance This is about as good as it gets in the $12 a plate range in this neighborhood. Seating is simplistic and clean, not the typical SF restaurant where they shove in as many tables as they can. Definitely comfortable here. The waitstaff was the most professional I've seen in this neighborhood. All I had to do was look up and I had their attention. They constantly filled glasses. were prompt with dishes and service - wonderful! When I asked if the Tom Yum was vegetarian, they asked if I could eat eggs or tofu which was very attentive. An appetizer, 2 meals and 1 drink for $30. Great price. Had the Tom Yum Soup (a little sweet), Pad Se Ew and Drunkes Noodles. Yum.

Baan is now my top Thai place in the city! I used love Modern Thai but their food quality is not always consistent, this place on the other hand is always top notch. I've been here four times now and ever dish that I got here was delicious. Just remember that when the menu indicates that the food is spicy, it IS spicy! I got drunken goat noodles, which are prepared spicy to begin with, and asked for extra spicy....I was crying the whole dinner, it was way too spicy for me. Next time I ordered regular drunken goat noodles with spices on the side and the dish was perfect! This is definitely a place to come back again and again. Great food, awesome service, and nice atmosphere.

The food is pretty tasty, I admit, but the sanitation practices of this establishment are questionable. Since rice doesn't come with any of the dishes, we ordered it separately. Imagine our surprise when we cut into the ball of white rice only to discover a Long Dirty Curly Piece of Black Hair in the middle. Further, when the waitress was alerted to this fact, she was totally nonchalant and just brushed it off!! She did finally bring a new ball of rice, but it was really hard to get the image of the disgusting piece of hair out of our minds for the rest of the meal. We also got charged for the rice. Also, even though we were there in the middle of the afternoon, so the restaurant was nearly empty, the service was not very prompt. We didn't have any knives with which to cut our food. Unfortunately, because there are other better thai options a few blocks away, we will not be back.

I stumbled upon Baan while wandering the area looking for a good dinner spot. Great, inviting, and mellow environment for a group or date. The Tom Kha, Pumpkin Curry, and Drunken Noodles were all delicious. Look forward to returning to check out more of the items on the large, tasty looking menu.

no discrimination here after a tiring day of wearing professional wear, i switched into something more comfortable to dinner. because i wanted to be comfortable, i also ended up looking a bit disheveled. i also wasn't aware that this was a more upscale thai restaurant, so i looked quite out of place. regardless of what i looked like, at no point did i feel like the staff treated me any differently. that is something i do applaud. another thing that i thought was surprising was that there were only white customers. the service was timely. food arrived at a decent pace. refills of water were done often enough. a staff switched the appetizer plates away a bit sooner than i would have liked. the transaction for the credit card was super fast. the food seems a tad and a bit pricey. crispy roll $7 - peppery - sauce wasn't too thick or thin samosa $8 - sweet potato in there??? - was a bit over done by the color on the outside - spicy despite there not being a chili picture next to it on the menu - the cucumber in the more liquified version of sweet and sour sauce from the crispy roll alleviated some of the spiciness and the cucumbers gave it a crispier texture pra ram $10 - a bit misleading with the spinach because there is only a small amount. most of it was broccoli (aka small trees that i don't really like) pineapple fried rice $14 - quite a bit of chicken - hardly any shrimp - not quite enough of cashews either - they use golden raisins here, but the flavor doesn't really come through - they use either cherry or grape tomatos - no curry or tumeric seen - it lacked something though pad thai w/chicken $10 - saucy - more sweet than sour - white meat wasn't dry - chunks of bean curd clearly visible 3.5 stars

They eliminated my favorite menu item, the Tango Taro and Pumpkin, back in June. My boyfriend and I used to order delivery all the time from here, and only did Marnee Thai for takeout once in a blue moon. Now it's the other way around!

    (1)
  • Tim B.

I came here already with a negative bias. I had heard it was over priced for thai food (partially true) and that marnee thai was better anyways (again, true). However, I still had a decent time here. It is a pretty nice idea to have the restaurant a wine bar as well. They have lots of different wines that they put into flights so you can taste 3 different wines. We ended up ordering a bottle, however. As for the food, we ordered: - Larb salad - pretty good, has that acidic taste... decent, nothing to really get too excited over - Angel wings - they were stuffed chicken wings with some random stuff like vermicelli noodles and veges, chicken. The wings were in their panang curry. The curry was probably the tastiest part of the dish. - Drunken noodles - you do not need an id to eat these =p Pretty tasty. Thick noodles with various veges .. your choice of beef, chicken, pork - Tom Yum soup - its a spicy / sweet soup. I dunno.. it felt kind of generic to me. It tasted good, but i've had better at marnee thai. I wish they used better mushrooms. I would come back again if I wanted to eat thai at a "classy" place for some sort of nice occasion with people who would choose dining environment over taste. Also, if i was too lazy to make my way over to 9th and I was really craving thai, I'd come here instead of marnee thai.

Delicious. We had the hot and sour soup, and it was tangy, spicy and full of flavor. For our main course, we had the pad thai and the yellow curry chicken. Both were excellent. The tofu in the pad thai had a great texture, and an interesting flavor. The chicken had a sweet flavor that kept me wanting to eat more. The service was friendly and quick. The decor is nice and modern. Highly recommended.

Yum yum yum and poo on all the people complaining about this place because it is awesomeness plain and simple people you don't know about food if you don't eat here so go back to arkansas or whatever and grow some chickens.... OK really though, this place is great. I go here with my girlfriend often and always love it. Pookie is really nice and sweet and remembers how my GF likes her Tom Kha soup, which she is crazy about. The Tom Kha is so good that sometimes we will get another one to go and then eat it when we get home. Or, on the Muni, or waiting at the stop. I get the eggplant, and the eggplant is always nice and soft not stiff like so many other places make their eggplant, and the chicken is always good and we are picky about our meats. Ok two little things though: Don't go if you're in a hurry, they take their time with the food, especially if you get dessert. Some of the more "everyday" dishes are just ok. The Pad Thai I had was good, but it was just good. They seem to excel at things that are harder to get right, like curries and such. Oh, and they will make it spicy if you ask. Like actual Thailand spicy, but you will probably have to ask because Americans just love to ask for their food spicy and then complain that it's too spicy.
